Hey Guys,

I want to upgrade my nav disk, but I am not sure if I have the D-Nav syetem. Anyboady know how to figure that out?

The 2000 S-Class Mercedes-Benz came equipped with both C navi and D navi based COMAND systems To verify which system is installed in the vehicle, the follow test can be performed:

Press the Detour ( “ DETR” ) button on the COMAND upper-right keypad. The C navi has only the “Traffic Jam” option. The D navi has both the “Traffic Jam” as well as the “Detour in Route” option.

 

I appreciate it, I have the C.

I am trying to find a new Nav Disk for California. Does anyone know if any of the new ones work with the C Nav?

And will they also update the firmware and any options?

Ok I performed the test as oulined above. I have an 02' S500. The test showed that I have the "d" system. The disc I have is labled DIsc 1 7/00 0 6 46 0053. So Is this an old 2000 disc?

Is my system CD based or DVD based?
What is the latest edition software I can get(with ease)?

My son just told me that the nav system can be upgraded to play dvd Movies, has anyone heard about this? or where to go to learn more.

How do I tell for sure if I have a dvd or cd based system 2002 S500

2002 are not dvd based. Dvd based navigations start in 2004.

Digital Map Inclusions

The digital map CDs consists of urban, suburban, rural, and interstate areas. Urban and suburban areas consist of major roads and side streets. Rural and interstate areas consist of major, named roads. Most highways, inter- and intrastate, are also included.

Not all routes are included on the CDs and current data may differ from that available at the time of the compilation of the CD map data. The digital map CDs may inform
you of details such as U-turns, one-ways, etc. Some street addresses may also be included. The digital map CD uses this information in determining the route to your destination.

The digital map CDs will also provide you with locations with unspecified addresses called points of interest (POI). POIs include items such as restaurants, hotels/motels, gas stations, airports, hospitals, police stations, major shopping centers along major roads, etc. POIs provide a convenient manner in which to select your destination.

Destinations of these POIs are restricted to major roads only. Note that updated digital maps, when available, will provide a more complete coverage as new POIs are constantly being added.

 

My navigation system is really slow and doesnt show the street names as Im driving along.....Does anyone know if I need to update my software for my Navigation system? I currently have a 2004 Digital Road Map CD but not sure if it is for the Navi-C or the Navi-D....how do I know (my car has the Navi-D)?

 

A disc for Navi-C won't work in a Navi-D equipped car. The Nav system won't read it. I don't know if any of the CD-based units show names of smaller streets (other than the one you are on, or are turning to), but on my DVD system they are displayed when zoomed in considerably. At the 2 to 5 mile per inch resolution I often display, they aren't shown.

 

How will I know if the cd is a Navi-C or Navi-D disc...it doesnt say on the cd? I think your right about the small street names, but my cursor arrow on the map will move along as Im driving but once it gets to the end of the map displayed, it will freeze up at that point. Do you know why?

i have the complete set of navi c 2000 s430 if car is made 7/99 you will have navi c system.i have the 1/04 updates including canada
