Protection from road chips and bugs?

I'm driving my S430 from Pennsylvania to Illinois this weekend.

I have seen some cars on car carriers with what appears to be plastic on the front fenders, hood, sideview mirrors. I'm assuming this protects the car from road chips while it is on the highway.

Anyone know what they are using? I'd hate to cut up trash bags and put it on my car.....LOL...but I will do it if I have to ! It has to be something I can get quickly....need it by Friday.

Thanks !

Hi

I was thinking on installing this Clear Bra protection on my car, but still not sure if I'm going to do this.
Read more here about Clear Bra .

I hope it helps.

P.S. If you going to install it, please post your opinion and results with pix.

Listen bro iam from the middle east and you know what that means...lots of sand which is not very good for the paint. I have a S5'02 here in canada and i have a S5'01 back in the middle east. So the best way of protecting your car on the road from bugs, debri that could put chips on your paint, is...now listen to this its from my whole lifes experience in the middle east where i was born. GREASE just cover your from hood, front bumper, the back of the side view mirrors and your safe. All you have to do is just wash it off when you get to where your going. Drive Safe

yea i wouldnt grease it. First wash the car then use painters tape on the mirrors, front bumper, leading edge of the side skirts, and leading edge of the hood. It will look ugly but will prevent paint damage. Some people on the C32 board or CLK board do this when they track their car... do a search.

grease is not hard at all to take off at all...iam from saudi arabia and thats where they sell the most S classes and Maybachs compared to anywhere else in the world and everyone does this when going on highways on long distance trips...grease totally protects your paint job and comes out easily with warm water or a trip to the carwash which iam pretty sure you will go to once u get to where you were going bro..the painters tape on the other hand is not a bad idea aswell but its only protecting the edges i dont see the point in that. keep in mind that these are clearly the cheap alternatives the best way however is to get that clear bra for the hood, mirriors, and bumpers.

2004 C320 pewter/charcoal
About 1 month ago, when my car was about 3 wks old (04 C320) I noticed a couple of paint chips off the front hood of my car which irritated the hell out of me (very small, but once I noticed it, could help but see it). Also the car was with the nano-paint which is supposed to resist this chips. I ended up buying the clear bra (3M) had it professionally installed ($520) and now I have more peace of mind (I'm in Ohio and the snow season with all the salt, etc is coming soon). I recommend it highly, you definitely can't tell it's on from a few feet away, up close you see a thin line across your hood where the film stops). I got the front part of the hood, bumpers, side view mirrors protected). I will get the headlight protection after I upgrade to bi-xenon.

Transparent paint protection is the solution for rock chips & minor scuffs. It is true that the new paint technology is better at resisting rock chips, but rocks and debris could fly at a car's front end at speeds of up to 150mph.

We at Premier Mobile Aesthetics Group have just became a vendor on this board. We service vehicles mainly out of Northern California, but have traveled all over the states for group buys, exotics meets, etc. Here are some pics of our work..........
