actually a couple of dealer sales guy did honestly tell me that best to get a 02. by 02 most issues were sorted out.

I did read on this forum and ther other one. that 00 may have A/C and suspension problems. Do a search. You should find some info.

mty 2000

my 2000 430 has been pretty good, but at over 100k miles, i have experienced:

suspension pump went out, $1000 fix

the A/C is a little slow on cooling down the car, my car is black on black, but it seems like a mechanical issue

other than that, no problems. changed the plugs at 100k miles and it was like a brand new car.

i have heard that other 2000 owners have had more problems though

i have also noticed that the 2000 S classes did have some technical problems and right around now they are showing these problems because they had been running for 4 years

2000 S - Beware !

I should have realized that when it took 3 hours for the dealer to "deliver" my 2000 S430, I was acquiring a highly complex vehicle, subject to it's share of mechanical problems. What I didn't realize was how large that "share" would be. I had the car for 4 years and 60000 miles and thankfully MBUSA and the dealer warranted a vast majority of the post warranty problems and certainly all of the 4yr/50k issues. A few of the problems included: repeated failures of the command center, reception of only one AM radio station, non working phone voice recognition system, complete suspension system failure (twice), leaking ps pump, leaking headlight covers, mirror motor failures, cracked plastic seat trim (3x) and numerous other "annoyance" issues that kept me at the dealer on a regular basis. The lesson learned was NEVER get the 1st one off the line, as I did on 3/30/1999. The 2004 S500 that I got in October 2003 has been perfect. EVERY item that was a problem in the 2000, seems to be upgraded and fixed.

We have a 00 500, we're selling it soon because its in the shop a lot. A lot of like technical failures, for ex. the audio system doesn't work half the time. I'm not sure if they've fixed the back A/C yet, but that needs great improvement in the 00'. Best bet, find the latest model...

my older 00 S5 had that leaking headlamp cover all the time they kept on changing the gaskets but it after a while i would see condensation setting inside again...your right bout the first of the line products...unfortunately its the MB flagship we are talking about here i hope the maybach doesnt have minor problems like these coz that would just tick the buyers off

'81 380SL/dual cam chain-LT4 vette-Z06 ('03) vette-I need a bigger garage....
2001 s430 here. Nothing but problems and has only 40k on it. Seat rail broken (I weigh 170). ABS module fixed 3 times. Suspension problems. Navigation software/hardware rebooted. Numerous other problems. Dealer in Huntsville, Al. is a real pain with which to deal. We have owned various Merzs through the years but the styling of the Lexus is beginning to grow on us.
