No EZS / EIS CAN communication
Hello everyone,
I have a 1999 S320 W220 with a problem. The key won't turn. No big deal, send EIS for repair. But no. It was sent and tested 100% good and now the main issue I have is DAS will NOT connect to the EIS. It should be able to, even with the ignition off, but when I try to connect I have "Error during initializing".
All fuses are OK. Pre fuse box was a teeny tiny bit rusty but same, fuses have continuity.
Power to the EIS connector is also good.
I tested on DTS / Vediamo too, same thing. Seems to be dead, but tested ok when alone on a bench.
Did anyone ever have that issue, how did you end up solving it ?
Thank you very much,
defalt

The thing is they're all original to the car.
For a bit of context, the previous owner had the keys work intermittently, and sometimes wouldn't turn. All 3 keys. Then he sent out the EZS to be repaired but the company said it worked fine, called them today to confirm and they told me the unit is indeed 100% working. Plus, even if it was mismatched, would it not issue drive authorization but at least communicate?

Do you want to solve the problem or just debate online ? Buy the 4 parts .
i dont know if you’re in USA but here if you buy the set on eBay , you can return it if it doesn’t work for you . I don’t know the return policies of other country eBay purchases

Well here in France you mostly can but I won't freeze 400+ bucks without even being sure it's that.
I wouldn't call explaining the circumstances debating. I have questions because I don't only want to fix the problem, but understand what causes it. My only problem right now is not that the key doesn't turn, or whatever, it's that the EZS *won't communicate* and I haven't figured out why yet. As we know EZS is ok, that should mean there's an issue between EZS and CAN bus. That's why I specifically asked if people on there have already had their EZS module unable to communicate with DAS, and possibly the key not turning too.
Changing all of the drive authorization system parts won't help if they can't communicate between them, this is why I asked that specifically. Tomorrow I will check the CAN rows and more wiring and provide test results.

Sorry, I intended on writing a post but this answer is more of a notebook. I will publish a better organized version.
So, after replacing the connector, the issue is the exact same.
As normal, when a door is opened, the seat controls work. For the FL seat, FL-DCM N69/1 is in charge. This is connected to strip X30/5 which was rusty. Needs to be changed.
To this strip is also connected :
- A37 PSE pump (soft close and lock/unlock indeed don't work)
- A40/3 COMAND (not equipped)
- N22/4 AC control module (?)
- N32/1 FL seat adjustment CM (working)
- N69/3 DCM-RL (not equipped)
- Through yellow line, X30/4
And through white line, N10/6 which is the left front SAM, which is responsible for connection with X30/6 which connects :
- N73, EIS !
- A1, instrument cluster
- N80, steering column module
- N22, air conditioning module
- N72/1, upper control panel
- N10/7, front right SAM
And of course, the specific connector from LF SAM into X30/5 is very corroded.
I have to go now. I will look into it further asap.

X30/5 rusty especially connexion to N10/6 which connects with X30/6
Z37/2 and Z37/3 rusty too, which connects ETC TCM
Z37/14 and Z37/13 which connect N80 SCM, A1 IC, N73 EIS goes through X18 which was rusty. Now replaced.
X18 then goes through Z37/2 and Z37/3 which are rusty.
Now : repair X30/5 and connectors, Z37/2 and Z37/3
Order :
CAN strip A0025467940
CAN plug A0305452828
Does anyone know if A0305452828 comes with the prongs or if I need to order separately ? I don't see the prongs in EPC
Thanks
