Disable immobilizer?

The immobilizer in the car seems unreliable/wonky. Despite being unlocked the car will still occasionally flash its lights like an alarm with no apparent reason why.
Just now the immobilizer stopped the car from starting (could turn the key, but starter wouldn't engage).

Pushing the unlock button on the key got it to engage the starter and start normally. This was despite my trying to turn the car on manually and not keyless.

Seems something's ****y, and I want to fix it.

like everyone always says what are the codes? do you have water in your sams

after all these years, you are still trying to mess with electronics to bypass one and make something work without finding the root cause?

What are you talking about? The SAM is clear of any and all water, however I haven't looked for codes because the problem just came up. First instinct is to ask on the forum.

Mercedes has a history of agricultural car construction. That went away after the 90s, but there's still a small bit of that DNA left.

Regardless, my guess is some sensor is problematic. Water in the SAM seems unlikely. I'm currently fighting a burst ABC hose, so reading codes will have to wait a bit.
