If you are using a Mercedes branded Star Tac, and you have the phone option in your vehicle, then all you do is plug the phone into the cord/cradle located in your center console and the phone book is automatically accessable via COMAND. Once you remove the phone however from the cord/cradle, the phonebook is unaccessable via COMAND.
All that COMAND does it read your phone book from the docked/connected phone.

With the previous analog phone on thge S500 there was a feature to download the phonebook onto the COMAND system so that you still have your phonebook available even after changing the phone. This also made it possible to voice dial names in the phone book. For example I would simply say "Dial name" followed by "John" to dial John's number. I am sure there is a way to do this with the STARTAC. Right now I can only do dial number followed by the number when voice dialing.
