Of all the pics posted in this thread I think I like the Audi interior best. I can't get over the newly redesigned grill, though. It looks too "German" to me. It reminds me of Hitler's mustache.

To be honest, I am really more concerned with the quality and reliability of this car. I hope they did a better job with the electronics and the interior build quality.

I hope that the initial buyers don't get stuck with lemons, like the previous generation early-adoptees. But, the new features sound intriguing. :p

Yeah where is the gear shifter? On the steer wheel column! I do like the exterior alot and will be targeting the 2nd year version of the W221. In my dreams, they'll change out that I-drive by then.

The sloping hood. The high trunk. The triangular headlights. The fender flares. I think I've found my next car!

wow, that focus with the fender flares is scarily similar...eww. i am not a fan...the more i look at the new s - the less i like it. i echo what others have said - i would go with an audi over this model.

You guys are hilarious! Lexus will never have iDrive because they have an infinitely better system already, a touch screen monitor. And the guy who states that the Japanese don't have innovative ideas, have you seen that Honda and Toyota already sell hybrid cars? Where are the German hybrids?

And the knock on Japanese cars was that they were all gimicks and gadgets and now that the Germans are trying to out gimick and gadget the Japanese, you so called German car fans are claiming the Germans invented them! I guess people wouldn't accept MB copying a Japanese company so they instead ripped of BMW! If Lexus did that, I'm sure people on this board would have been laughing and degrading Lexus, but now that MB did it, its somehow OK?!

so you are saying that Honda/Acura have great navi screens too, b/c they are touchscreens right? and they will never go another way. well did you see the new RL? no touch screen there hu. the screen is higher then the other navi screens and there is some sort of dial/i-drive thingy to use it.

A knob seems to be the way to go over a touch screen so that you can comfortably control the system without having to reach. Once you get used to the concept behind MMI, it's actually very easy to use. The four way i-Drive in the 5-series isn't that bad, either.

It would be a nice feature to accept input both ways for situations where you're entering a large amount of information, i.e. an address, or just to simply reduce the learning curve.

Not like Lexus made a name with there LS model by copying MB's S-Class i think MB made a comeback with this look and will make MB the car of 07..congrats MB on a great look..and a GERMAN look at that!!
I am a big fan of Bruno Sacco and his works of art as chief designer from the mid '70's to the late '90's. Can you HONESTLY say that the 221's instrument cluster display is TRULY German in execution, or the door panels, with the lack of hand rests, or the shifter located on the steering wheel column. I see nothing Teutonic in this car. Only the exterior stands out as being such. But the full synthesis is forever marred.

"A Mercedes should look like a Mercedes" -Bruno Sacco whose first effort as chief designer was the 126. I wonder what he thinks about the new S?

I saw the car tonight on the 10 west. I'm not a big fan of the Maybach look and the 7-series interior. Maybe the car might grow on me after I see what Brabus and AMG can do with the car.

That said there are still need for buttons which are accessed frequently like window controls, A/C, audio, telephone, etc.
Umm, actually Lexus gauges were influenced by aircraft ****pits, thus Lexus have either electrolumincent or optitron gaugues that light up like an airplanes. And looking at the S-class, they took this feature as well starting with the last generation and continuing with this generation.

if your tryig to say that MB copies lexus with the gauges then you are wrong. the new S has a screen for a speedometer that changes to a infra-red screen. lets see lexus add that in like 5 years and say they invented it. and if iam wrong and your saying lexus copies MB then all i can say is, I AGREE.

Lexus has really good marketing. Every time I see a commercial I believe they invented it for the 30 seconds the comerrcial airs, then I remember that Mercedes did it. They are lucky Mercedes doesn't patent their stuff.
Can someone tell me why???
