I guess the new MB "innnovation" is wheel flares.......sad

When BMW 7 came out, fugly or not, had nothing in common with W220, now W211 inside borrows A LOT from fugly 7. I bet BMW 745iL was unofficial MB muse.

I really saddens me to see such a blatant, unashamed copy of the ugliest interior in a luxury car ever.

Mercedes all the way!
this has been discussed to death already.

why doesn't someone just say "hey, car A's copied car B, cuz its got a steering wheel, 4 wheels, leather and wood". oh, and a screen to display information. but wait, the Merc has TWO screens! and real buttons IN ADDITION to COMAND. AND COMAND can be controlled from either the "roller" or the steering wheel.

look at the pics again -- what's so similar? i could name dozens of differences. the new S is gona pound the 7 into submission.

and lets not forget, Merc was the one who started the trend of using a computer screen to display additional information, integrating the nav, radio, and CD player into one unit -- with the original COMAND. IIRC it was already in Japan market W140s in the mid-90s!

get over it

New S

I like Mercedes. Yes, the new "S" has similarities to BMW, but MB does it all so much better. I am ordering one today.

a Few Nice cars.
I dunno...Maybe its me but BMW and MB are both German cars...so there gonna have the look that blends them together,I like both cars,But MB has a more "clean" inside where as the Bemmer has the ****pit look.there are several parts of the interior that looks alot like BMW's 7,But Mercedes coined alot of wut BMW has plus other car...Mercedes was 1st on..The 1st car,Patent the Air Bag,Founded the Power seat buttons to look like the seat,Had Navi b4 BMW/...so what that they look alike...is that really a bad thing for 2 of the most Respected cars ever to come out of Germany????its about time are German cars draw peace and go after the American cars!!! Hail to Germany!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But I am not complaing

I am not complaing, I like the car and I AM gay. What does being gay have to do with appreciating a fine car with a fine look.

On an unrelated note, those rear climate control wheels appear to have been derived from the W140.

For customer points of view, I want a fully competitive market. I would like to see they "learn" from each other as long as it helps customers having a better quality car with "borrowed" convenient features. (Actually W221 does better jobs than E65 so far.) Truly welcome Lexus and Infinite to "follow" all good features and provide us more alternative choices.

Aside from the screen and guages. To me, it looks more like an older Crown Vic (Grand Marq don't recall) from Ford dash.

I think once we see the actual car, we can make a better decision. I hope everything works well, remember, BMW had a ton of trouble when the current 7 came out.
I am going to Frankfurt Auto Show in September; I will post pictures and impressions after seeing the real thing.

BMW could reallly sell off of this. I could see a commercial where a 750Li is going down a street and a W221 turns and starts following. :p

Anyone else remember where BMW had the ads in car magazines that said "New for 2006" and had a picture of a 2004 7-series. Funny, huh?

It's rather nervy for MB to copy Ford when, if they wanted POS American styling, they could have raided the Chrysler bin.

looks are subjective i guess. as for quality, i seriously doubt you can judge it from pictures. but anyway, just look at the way the wood knurls around the centre console. and the silver strip. THAT'S quality for you. of course i can only give a meaningful judgment when i've touched the car itself so you could possibly be correct.

btw which ford, i'm wondering, does this look like?

I hate threads like this, and every thread like it, ever. Not that the fact that threads like these are probably the most inspid kind on the internet would stop people from posting them- I'm just pointing it out. There's very little intelligence in the ideas here.

Since when car discussion requieres intelligence? YOu must be the only one in the whole wide world looking for "intelligence" in car forums. Whats next for you , searching for "intelligence" in a Sears appliances forum?

i do think intelligence is required for many discussions. there are always logical arguments, facts, etc. which emerge from forums though of course there are plenty of drivel as well. guess threads like these ARE less likely to produce any meaningful discussion. no one has touched the car. no one has physically seen the car. and everyone has their own opinions about beauty which means squat to everyone else.

but there's nothing wrong in sharing opinions, methinks. as long as it doesn't descend into shoving.

in reply to my own question above, realised the Ford in question is the Crown Vic -- sorry, never heard of that car, before entering this thread. so case closed for that one.
