Was at the S-Class debut in Khobar last night

This car is remarkable. I really believe it has "raised the bar". none of the other cars in its class, not even the flying spur (which is one hell of a ride), seem to be at the same level of technology, comfort, or design.
The dealer here had three Ss out there. A obisdian black S 350, and two Iridium Silver S 500 Longs, with the AMG kits. The night vision is pretty neat, very clear. The screen in middle rotates from driver to middle to passenger. The *** in the center console has this nice feature, it turns as many times as there are choices in the menu selected. for example, if you go to sound and you have 5 sound settings, the *** turns 5 times only, if you have 2 options it turns twice, if you go to the radio, the *** turns as many times as there are frequencies. The doors do not hold at only two positions; half open, and all open, but rather, wherever you leave the door, it holds still. The seats are much comfier than than the older Ss (though the 140 seems roomier in the back). all in all, beautiful car. but much pricier than older models.
Jaffali, the dealer here in Saudi Arabia, have 1,800 cars ordered all of which are sold. I was also told the waiting period for the S350 is 9 months.
The soonest anyone would be driving one, through the dealer, is the end of next month. Rumors have circulated that 3 were sold and are already being driven in two other cities, but not through the dealer.

I hear the S600 will be powered by a V12 bi turbo, is that like the S65 now? if so, what will the AMG version of the S class be powered by?

Mercedes all the way!
modeer: you're a lucky man! the first S's won't even arrive here until late next year - and sales are unlikely to pick up until they start local production 2 years down the road, thanks to the silly taxes on imported cars - even seeing an S500 here is quite a treat.. *sigh* anyway, enjoy!

i'm aiming for a new S350 - can't wait to sample the new range of engines =)
