It was launched in Dubai in late September and the first cars were delivered during the first week of October (only a handful). Second shipment just arrived and customer deliveries will start this weekend.
Just as we have the new S-Class being delivered here already, you guys have the R-Class many months before it will come here.

Bluetooth, so close yet so far
Finally got the car and have the following observations regarding bluetooth:
The end result is rather disappointing. The only things that need more investigation are the Universal Handy Interface (UHI) to see whether the Nokia 6230i interface module that came with the car can be exchanged for a Bluetooth module supporting the handsfree or headset profiles, or whether the PCMCIA slot (for flash memory cards containing MP3 music) can also take other devices like Bluetooth and WiFi cards.
Anyway, the fact that there is a Bluetooth module built into the car is an excellent starting point. Either there is some additional hardware or perhaps a software upgrade required to support the full Bluetooth headset and handsfree profiles required to make the feature useful. As usual my dealer is clueless.
I also have not been able to get any info on the AUX audio and video inputs and whether an iPod interface kit exists. The MP3 playback features are actually quite good (supports MP3's on CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, or Flash memory card), but I buy a lot of my music via Apple's iTunes store and that can only be played back via an iPod. The manual makes no mention of iPod integration.
- Bluetooth support is present and is configured via the COMAND system under VEHICLE -> SERVICES -> BLUETOOTH
- The car can pair with up to 12 Bluetooth devices at a time, and manual lists mobile phones, PDAs, laptop computers, etc. as examples of devices which can be paired
- Unfortunately, the standard Bluetooth implementation only appears to support the OBEX and Serial Port profiles
- In fact, the manual clearly states that the only feature supported with paired mobile phones is exchange of address book entries (vCard) via Bluetooth
- I was able to pair my i-mate SP5 (Windows Mobile 5 Smartphone) with the car and send vCards from the phone to the car

There will be an I-pod interface kit. For BT phones, there will be a BT cradle which allows use of BT phones. This will be used in place of the regular cradle. Not sure when either are available though. Probably some time in 2006 Q1.
