Red face Tranny Issues

Hi
I took the delivery on late october 2005.
Did not drive it that much, but I thought I could share some dislikes about the car for someone who is planning to purchase.

In general, I love the new S. Exterior is good and interior is excellent.
The only problem that I am having is transmission.
When it downshifts, sometimes, it makes 'thung' noise and feels like trying to speed up.
It does not happen often, however, it does happen once or twice a day, specially when the engine is cold.
The car has about 400 miles now, and the dealer reprogrammed the software, however, it won't solve the problem.
I guess this is the common probelm with new 7g tranny since I seen lots of people with cls complaning same problem.

Other than the tranny, I do like the car.
Hope this info helps someone who is planning to purchase.

In addition, if someone can give me better idea what might be the reason with tranny, please let me know so I can inform not so uptodate mechanics in my dealership.
Thanks in advance

My guess is just a reptrogramming.
I will ask my dealer and repost if you wanna know in details.

Maybe because you don't drive the car much, the Tranny is still trying to adjust to your driving.... It is an adaptive transmission, and it still might be trying to figure out how you drive....

I thought there might have been a software update for the 7G? Either way there should not be any harsh up or downshifting.

Mercedes all the way!
actually, the 7G tranny does do a rather rough downshifting job when its new. heck, even the 5-speeder does that when it's new. no worries, drive it more, man! just 400 miles in two months - wana lend it to me to "help" you break in the car?

It is the valve body. See my post on "7G thunk" https://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w220/130766-7g-thunk.html

Since the fix...it is as smooth as butter...only had 1200 miles when fixed.

I will bet it clunks when it downshifts from 2nd to 1st. My W220 did that to when new. Part of the transmission learning process.

Thx for Info

Oh well, I guess I will wait and see how it goes.

Except the rough tranny, I bet everyone will truly enjoy the car.
