The 7G Thunk

A couple of weeks ago I noticed that when I came to a stop or slowed down in Comfort mode, my 7g transmission was "thunking" when it went from 2nd to 1st gear. Sometimes it was almost imperceptable and sometimes quite a jolt. Last Tuesday I had my car in for a courtesy wash and I mentioned it to my SA. He told me to make an appointment and he would get it fixed.

I took it in today at 8:00 AM and he had a loaner C240 Wagon for me and said he would call me at about 3:00 or so. At 3:00 the phone rang and he said the car was ready and was as smooth butter. I picked up the car and he was right. Gear changes are totally imperceptable both up and down and in either Comfort or Sport.

The worksheet explains the testing...two different road tests with checking of codes and fluid level checks. They refer to it as excessively "firm" in the shift from 2nd down to 1st. They then called EDAC (?) and was told to replace the ECT/valve body. They performed this, set fluid levels and set shift adaptations. Re-roadtested and entered the remark "All Shifts are smooth. Transmission is now working fine." And they sure have that right!

I cannot say enough for my SA and Fletcher Jones service department. They have their act together. No delays, no try this. They are apparently up to speed on their products and are determined to make it easy on their customers

Hey NJ, haven't seen you around lately. Good to hear a couple Mercedes dealers who actually take care of their customers!

Hi Newt...I have been doing some picture taking and other stuff. Been checking the forums though looking for the "bashers".....LOL

I have not been a FJ supporter through the years here in LV, but I have to give credit where credit is due. Since moving to their new store the entire organizations seems to have changed for the better. The service department is a pleasure to visit...never thought I would say that...:-)

I need to move to LV. These guys here dont seem to know what they are doing. There's always a new mechanic in training everytime my car goes in for anything.

Join the crowd...still 4-6000 per month moving here. Based on the number of MB's at Fletcher Jones (in the showrooms and going through service) most of those new arrivals must be buying them at FJ....:-)

The service at Fletcher Jones in Newport Beach also is excellent.

Congrats Nevada Jack on getting your car smoother than before

I agree with Lender Fletcher Jones is organized.
My SA did some fine combing 1 month before my warranty was out.
He replaced a new amp, new relays for the airmatics, and antenna? the homelink garage opener.

House on the other hand needs to get their act together

You don't like House. I think M-B of Laguna Nigual is operated and staffed with idiots.

The premier dealer in Kansas City is Aristocrat Motors and they are excellent too! I bought my first MB from them (280SL) in 1970 and have been going there ever since. There are a lot of good dealers out there. More than you might think by reading these forums.

Did the notes or your SA say if they needed to reprogram your ECU?

No mention of the ECU. Only reference is to "performed shift adaptations" after "replacing the ECT/valve body." Whether the shift adaptations include some ECU changes I don't know.
