Nothing wrong with a good touring tire -- best ride out there. You do want one that can deal with the occasional downpour or standing water on the road surface....

Remember too that your brakes, and the ability to avoid an obstacle in the road, depend on your tires' ability as well -- there is a saftey issue involved beyond "high(er) performance".....

I value safety higher than performace, myself.

A great touring tire, Jack - that's what you want -- whatever it is. It may be the Continental, and it may be something else.

The Bridgestone Potenza's are excellent tires. (See here http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Compar...=All&x=57&y=10 )

The time to get your dealer to put quality tires on those 18" wheels is NOW--before you take delivery. He should be very amenable to putting good tires on that beautiful machine in order to "make the sale."

I'll let you know what to ask for as soon as I know--but you need to be thinking about whether you really want to stay w/ the all seasons or move up a grade to the higher prefromance tires. I'll have some options soon.
Wuz up Jay - I have an LE that I have not taken delivery of yet. I have seen the car already and it comes with the 19" Continentals. I live in the DC area so I would prefer a nice comfortable touring all season tire. What do you recommend?

You might want to check this URL: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Search...nSpeedRating=H

Select the Preformance Category you want and see what will work on your LE's 19" wheels. Personally, I'd select an Ultra High Performance Summer tire for the DC area. There are several excellent tires listed there. I favor the Goodyear Eagle F1s, which are what I run on my car, but the Micheline PS2s, and several others will be good too. They won't preform very well in those rare snow storms you get, but the other 98% of the time you will be very impressed. I also have Micheline X-Ice tires that I use in the winter, but I think our winters are much worse than yours. There are several other categories for you to look at as well, but you need to make the final decision.

I think the spare is an inflatable also. I checked the brochure but can't locate the information.
Thanks for the compliment. The inflatable tire that I have works quite well. It is certainly an improvement over the can of air that came in earlier model year E55s. good luck with the car. I am sure it will be fabulous.

Thanks a bunch...i had gone through the listings and guess which one I made a note of...yup...the same tire. They are $249 each at Tire Rack. I am going to contact Greg and have him check with parts and see what he comes up with on a change-over before delivery.

I think a class dealership, which they sound like, will find a way to switch-out those tires at little or no additional cost to you. And I am sure you will be much happier in the long run w/ the A/S. Good luck.

I agree and expect to pay a little more...they are in business to make money but Greg indicated it would not be a problem. I'll let you know what the final outcome is. Thanks again!

Jack, Please un-stretch the elongated interior shot ! The white S430 tailight was iffy, but viewing this steering wheel is gonna be a problem if you keep this car longer than 6 months !

Congrats on your car Jack.. Glauser is first class all the way.. I have dealt with Chad Glauser and his father (the owner) when they were down here in florida. They are what every MB dealer should be!

Thanks...Fletcher Jones here is LV has improved tremendously since they opened their Palace on Sahara. But they do not deal with customers in sales the same way Greg and his general manager have with me on this deal. Very open and up front and a pleasure to talk with. They respond to your questions like you were the only customer they had.

How this...tried several combinations which I didn't like. This one is symetrical and no stretched look...:-)

When do you pick up that beautiful new car? (I think you said some time in May...) Have you heard anything from the dealer about the possibility of getting the A/S tires?

Jack,
I just got off the phone with Dimitri (Greg's partner) at Glauser.
Please email me. I'm hoping to get the same deal you got.

Thanks Thanks Thanks

I'll have to get a lot more miles out of my still (to me) new E Class before I can justify the leap to an S, but thanks to NevadaJack for the updates to allow us to share at least vicariously in the experience of purchasing the first of a new model.

By the way I do travel a lot in my business and have over the years stopped in at a number of Mercedes dealers over the years. The people at Glauser were most cordial and I was impressed with their large selection.

The build date had been moved to the first decade in May so delivery now will be mid-June or so.

The take-off exchange is no problem...details not yet discussed.
