Speed Limiter

Speed Limiter
Is the 550 limited at 130 or 155? Anyone know? Considering a majority of cars being made now (chevy, dodge, fords, toyota, nissan) are pushing into the 300 hp and can easily hit the 130 speed mark I need to know if I can break loose from the pack and loose everyone if the need arise knowing that I'm driving a super car. When the 220 first came out most average cars could not even make it to 120 miles so I could easily outgun them which made me feel realy good, but now it's getting harder and harder and everyone is running neck and neck with me and I hate that.

Ken,
$1750+- and a trip to Renntech will solve that little problem.
Correction...$1595 http://www.renntechmercedes.com/W220_S.html

I'm going to assume it's a serious post, because there IS a difference. The AMG versions will be capped at 155, and the non-AMGs at (I believe) 130 mph. The difference is the tires.
I'm guessing you can slip a M-B tech $20 and let him bump the limiter to 155. After you slip on the ZR tires, of course...

I don't think it's real simple...or everybody would do it. I think I read that a regular S500 unlimits to 170~175 and The S55 gets to 186. One can guess that with the more powerful engines that the W221 cars will potentially be faster.
I think there is a lot of work that go's into the reprograming of the ECU.
At the end of the day...$1500~$1600 plus a new set of Z rated tires is not a high price to pay for that level of performance.
