S and Maybach 57

i still don't understand why a 57 can sell at such a high price... i guess the only thing is the name and the ridiculous 2-tone color... apart from that, there's really nothing much so expensive about it. its exterior looks like a lincoln. its interior looks even worse than the new S.. and all those fancy gadgets, computer, LCD monitors, refrigerator, etc etc... who really needs them anyway? can anyone tell us what might be a reason to choose 57 over the new S, except the brand name?

I think that the new S is a fantastic car.

I think that the Maybach 57S is an even more fantastic car, luxury-wise. A backseat passenger in a Maybach is ensconced in an even nicer environment than in the S.

Then there's the 700HP....

When I've had the chance to drive both for a long enough period of time I will give you my opinion on their relative merits, and a comparison of the two....

not exactly 700hp lol....i wish

the Maybach 57S has "an AMG-tuned, 6.0-liter, twin-turbo V-12 engine that churns out 612 hp , which is 45 hp more than the "normal" 57, and an incredible 734 lb-ft of torque."

And can you imagine the luxury in the backseat? You could live in that car haha

Yes not exactly 700HP, mine has 550HP. The reason for buying a Maybach is the fact that it is the epitome of comfort and luxury. I have yet to find a car that can really match the Maybach's comfort.

do you drive it yourself? or you have a driver? because i think thats what it comes down to i guess most ppl would rather drive the car themself and the S class would be easier to be driven than a maybach imho

thats why i only think it's appropriate to compare 57 with S-class, not 57S. i guess it's completely not fair to compare S with 57S or 62. If comfort wise, the S should be really good already and i heard the drive is very smooth and things like that and 0-60 is only like 5.x second, i guess it's more than sufficient for a luxury sedan... as for luxury, i think the name is a big reason... of course 57 is a much more prestigous car given its price, no doubt about it..

Mercedes all the way!
in an era when all luxury sedans must also be "sporty", the Maybach is a big difference. the brand name and price allow Merc to concentrate on comfort in these vehicles. in many senses, i think Maybach's are closer to the W140 S-class: big, comfy, luxurious, with no sporting intentions at all. the 57S on the other hand, i can kind of see the appeal but besides the amazing interior (black makes the interior look unbelievably good) the S63AMG would probably make more sense... but the Maybach isn't, of course, about sense at all..

I agree about the pix's. Wouldn't you love to go into the garage and have that selection for a days drive. I don't think we have another Maybach owner on this forum and would love to see them all lined up in the driveway...what a shot that would make...!

The Maybach is being used to take a client around LV. But I do have pictures of the Carrera GT, LINK https://mbworld.org/forums/sl55-amg-sl63-amg-sl65-amg-r230/136772-though-my-new-car-competitor-sl65-pics.html. If you wish I will also post pictures of my S500 and Turbo S.

Thanks for the link AMG1, but it sure gets way off topic and a little wild....:-)

Beautiful car and seeing the Maybach in the garage makes for a pretty picture. You are in the right business for this town for sure. I am retired and have been here 12 years now...love the city and the climate, what more to ask for.

My Chinese friends often tell me that if you have to drive it yourself then you should never have bought it. I presume the same applies to the Maybach as it does to the RR.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

That's why I buy supercars and AMG MBZ's, and that's why I buy trackcars and rent tracks -- to sit in the passenger or back seat for someone else to drive me around!!!!!

Oh man, that IS funny!

Guess it shows the differences in people, and what their wonts are. I would (will most likely) buy a 57S so my passengers can enjoy the luxurious back seat.... I want to drive the sobobnovitch! LOL

Same with the S65 - I'm driving, they're enjoying the back seat.

When I get too old to enjoy driving, and I want to sit ensconced in the back seat, it will be something like the 62 or a Becker Jetvan - that's for sure.

That was good input benzmodz, thanks!

If I had a maybach, I would do a little bit of both. Drive it and be driven.

I guess it all depends on what you do. If you're a busy businessman, you would most likely sit in the back and do your work than drive it. Or if you're off work, you can drive it yourself. I guess it's different for everyone.
