You just gotta love MB and their ambient lighting in the cars. The one in in the S is just too nice. Is it as bright as it looks in the picture? I imagine it must be brighter out in the open because you have the lighting from the headlights and stuff reflecting into the car making it a little dimmer.

And is that with the parking lamps or headlights as well? The shine on the wall is kinda cool.

Hey jack, were the effects intentional? …Of course they were – you’re a government trained professional!

With the new S-Class you leave every “hellish” (tail light reflection in the mirrors) experience you ever had behind, always moving forward to “divine” (headlight reflection & ambient lighting) stimulation.

Remove the garage accouterments and you got yourself a MB print ad!

OMG! That is so true! Never thought of it that way.

You seriously should try to take a shot as similar to that as possible and submit it into MBUSA, except with it outside!!

And the vertical stripes from the headlamps add a nice effect.

It looks a little brighter in a totally dark situation. There are 5 levels of brightness and I think mine is on 3 or 4...have not reset it yet from COMAND. They are the parking lights reflecting on the wall.

Great pic!

Where are the settings for the ambient light? I have not seen one yet.

Thanks.

Thanks on the pictures and ditto your images also.

Go to Vehicle in COMAND and bring up the settings for ambient lighting...you can select 5 different intensities I think.

Ok, I have looked ALL over the vehicle settings and my car does not have it. On page 225 of the manual, I can see what the setting menu should look like. Mine does not have the ambeint light setting screen at all. It looks like they took that out and added Trunk opening height restriction at the bottom. Do you have that option?
Here is what my screen looks like.

Did Mercedes engineer the hell out of this car or what? I mean the features, power, and beauty are endless!!

Got goosebumps looking at that pic Jack. Looks like something from NASA wrapped in leather and wood! Stunning.

Ambient lighting

This is another great post by nevada jack....perhaps his taste in photos and lighting is only bettered by his taste in AMG s-classes!!! The benchmark has been raised again! Thanks nevada jack.

In response to ///MB, my s500 has the ambient lighting feature in that menu. From my understanding the fearure is an option on some models in some markets...perhaps thats why it is not included??? I'll double check the menu and let you know...and a question from me....do you have the electronic trunk closer?

Have you scrolled that menu to see if it is not above or below what is shown? If you have then apparently you need a software update for COMAND. The Ambient screen is located after the two Delayed lighting headings. Try selecting Vehicle and tilt the mouse toward you to open the graphic screens of the settings, then turn the mouse to scroll through the graphic screens and see if you see the S550 graphic with the Ambient lighting illustrated in orange. If not, then it is definitely a software problem somewhere. Do you have the Ambient light in the car when your lights are on?

BTW I also have the Trunk Closer and it is on my menu along with the Ambient lighting so that is not the problem.

In the US, ambient lighting is standard on all models so he should have it in his menu.

I have the trunk closer...what was your question?

Thanks Nevada Jack. It's clearly missing from my comand. I'll call my dealer today.

Jack I see the menu includes “Trunk Opening-height Restriction” Do you have this on the 550? Was it on the 220? I haven’t looked but I don’t think the CLS has this.

Also, when closing the trunk with the closer would you say it is definitely a soft close throughout or does it borderline slam when it reaches a third of the way?

Yes I have it and it was also on the S430. The S430 closed like "get out of my way I am closing!" Really a hard close.

The S550 I think has been dampened and makes a nice reasonable fairly quick, constant speed closing with a normal hand-slam close sound. Don't try to stop it once it is closing.
