Active Lighting System

Hello to everyone.

Just a question about the active lighting system on the new S-class.

Is the swivel function of the headlights speed dependent? I.e. if you turn the steering wheel when the car is stopped do the lights turn or does this only operate when the car is moving.

Please note I am talking about the active lights (swivelling xenons) not the cornering lights i.e the fog lamps that light up on the sides.

Thanks.

I think it is speed dependent. I have noticed that the headlights do not swivel when the car is at a standstill, however even at a few mph the lights will swivel in conjunction with the steering.

It does not turn at standstill. I really notice it when I'm pulling into the driveway and garage. The headlights really turn back and forth quite a bit.

no, the headlights DO swivel when the car is still. I've tried it. Turn the steering wheel left/right, and u see this extra light shine on the side

The extra light you see at the side is the "cornering light" function...below 45km/h when you turn the steering wheel or activate the turn signal the corresponding fog lamp lights up.

The lights swivel 12 degrees apparently when the car in on the move...you can see the light beam move when you turn into a sweeper at speed and then see the beam straighten when you straighten the wheel.

there are two systems that work when you are turning.

The first is the "active ligthng system" - the actual xenons swivel up to 12 degrees in the direction you are turning...this appears to only operate when the car is on the move

The second is the "cornering light function" - this is what you're talking about...it operates below 45 km/h. The fog lamp lights up on the side you are turning to or when you activate the turn signal.

Hope this helps.
