So many new S's
As I walk around in mid-town Manhattan I see so many new S classes. I guess they must have ben delivered in large quantities to all the car service companies. It does take away a bit from the sense of exclusivity.

This is the price the S-Class must pay for being the best in class. Just wait until they start using them for taxis in Europe. They'll be S320 CDIs all over the place literally.

Exclusivity is a marketing "sucker" game for those of the merely affluent who are insecure enough to try to appear wealthier than they are....
Suspect most of the true hitters in Manhattan travel via private S-Class and driver....and don't really care if it's a 550/600/65....everyone that matters at their office/in their 'hood or 'burb/at their favorite dining spots, etc already knows they can afford any car they want....and their bird (a more reliable differentiator of economic status in Manhattan) is hangared at Teterboro/White Plains/Morristown anyway.....
Besides, mass produc also ensures greater crash-testing, refinement, and reliability of builds/technologies....all easier when R&D dollars can be spread over more units.....

I didn't see any W221s while in Manhattan a couple weeks ago. Not sure why. Saw tons of W220s, Town Cars, an entire block of Land Rover Range Rover Sports parked one behind the other, one Maybach (I think it was the 57S, but not sure), two Bentley Continental GTs, etc.

Yeah that is correct because the Towncar is the best in its class, being that its in a class all by itself (read: Antique Class).

At least we also have guys who modify their S500's w. some Kleemann bodykits already...
And the most insane part is that a stock S500 costs 327.676 $ while a stock S320CDI is 242.984 $ because of the taxes Denmark has chosen to have on thier cars.

2001 Lorinser Edition CL600 (SOLD)
There is no way around it. Exclusivity in any mass-produced product is a short-lived game. I called it months before it happened because the same thing happens everytime a new body style comes out, the first few weeks you're king, and thereafter, you're just another brick in the wall. I still like the new S. But, the only way to stave off commonality is to CUSTOMIZE it to your individual look.

S500/W220/2000
I'm still waiting to see one here in River City! Hell, my 2000/W220 is still one of only two or three in town. Now that's exclusivity!!
You guys just live in the wrong places for exclusivity.
