couple quirks with my new S550...anyone else experience the same?

I've had the car for about 1 month now, and have about 2000 miles on her. Two things i've noticed.

1. the display for the radio/nav etc will sometimes flash on and off when i first start the car...does this for about 5 minutes before it stays on

2. after i park the car and turn it off, sounds like there is liquid dripping onto a hot surface, creating a sizzling sound (a/c has been off)

3. when coming to a stop, at about 1 mph, the car kinda shudders, like the tranny is searching for a gear or something..

anyone else see the same things?

The only thing I have noticed about my car which is somewhat similar is when the car is idling it sometimes shutters a little, as if it's searching for a gear.

Minor problems like this occur on ALL 1st year models regardless of make. Go do some research. All companies, Toyota, Honda, Nissan and their luxo divisions have problems in their 1st year.

keep in mind that these little quarks do not make the car any less desireable. the only thing that i am getting rid of the car for is the new S65 when it is available.

there is always give and take when it comes to this stuff...

my w221 s500 doesn't shudder but my w211 E500 did...at very low speeds...as if it was searching for a gear...but that had the 5-speed not the 7G tronic

The other problem the just started to happen is after reversing the passenger side rearview mirror does not return to it's original position. I have to move the mirror backup myself.

My old S has always had that problem: It pulls in and drops down when I put it in reverse, but it only pulls back up and not out when I put it in drive. Never have asked dealer about that. Just manually push my memory button to return it to the pre-set position. Would love to know if anyone has a solution for this...

Here is something else I noticed:

When you drive it for the first 10 minutes or so, you can hear a slight popping sound all around the vehicle. I am not too sure what it is. Anyone else notice it?

One other thing I learned is that the mirror won't work at all if you do not have the "right-side mirror button" pushed in. But even after I learned that it still will not return completely to preset after I put it in drive.

Probably just new stuff breaking-in. It will probably stop after a time--or your car may blow-up!

I can try to help a lil, these cars are pretty new but some of the things you mentioned sound familiar

1. had this happen on other cars, could be normal for the new command system, its possible there is a flash for it
2. most likely the catalysts breaking in, or something else breaking in, pretty normal for new cars tho
3. im going to assume it is a 722.9 transmission, these are adaptive to your driving habits so give it some time, if it goes away then great, if it gets worse and worse and actually starts kicking hard you have a problem, but 9 times out of ten its brand new and still adapting

hope that helps

1- not normal- sounds like a faulty hard drive (seen a couple but way better than the first command when it came out)

2- hard to say without hearing it- are you shutting the AC off completely? If so, why? (But thats a different question)

3- it's the 2-1 shift, should get better , if not then it needs one of, or a combination of - software, valve body, new spring clip in the B1 piston internal to the transmission
