Post I have the 80Gig IPod hooked up to my CL550, it works like crap

I bought the 80 gig I-Pod couple months ago and hooked it up to my CL550, but it works like crap. The car makes me go through songs so slowly using the steering wheel controls, very frustrating. Only good thing is that with 80 gigs of MP3 storing capability, it can hold more MP3's than anyone would ever need.

But in the PCMCIA slot, the titles show up in the dash display but not the COMAND. What gives???
I'm using a Compact flash memory card and have never seen any freeze up. Perhaps the adapter is not good, or the memory card.

I don't remember if I've looked at the titles on the dash display but all appear just right on my Comand. Mine is a Euro model. Should not be an issue with the file format if the titles appear on the dash display, could ask for a SW update on Comand.

On other posts, perhaps PCMCIA is facing out but at my company we probably have 50 000 laptops and I've never seen one without a PCMCIA slot. Any other interface would likely be less flexible (PCMCIA can be used with so many different adapters).

One significant advantage of memory cards/micro drives on the PCMCIA slot is that the interface bandwidth is so high. You can browse folders and titles in a breeze. I actually have not used the iPod interface but it must take so much more time to feed all the song title info through the iPod adapter interface.

iPod certainly has more memory than typical memory cards today but 16 Gbyte Compact flash cards are easily available, bigger cards appearing all the time. Has to be a long trip if the songs on a single memory card star repeating during the trip.

No, the iTunes/Apple preferred format won't play on a W221 at least. But iTunes can be configured to convert audio to MP3 format which MB can play.
