Just how fast is the new S65 supposed to be
Hey all,
First time poster. The S65 has long been my dream car, and the new W221 S65s are just orgasmic. I was reading the Car and Driver article with the S600 vs the RR. I think they got a 0-60 of 4.2 out of the S600 in that test. Since the S65 is going to be considerably more powerful then the 600, just how fast is it going to be. With the extra 150 hp or so, I would be willing to bet that it will run mid-high 3s to 60? Does anyone else know or have any opinions about its performance #s?

Car & Driver usually gets faster-than-the-norm 60 mph times for the cars they test. They tested the S600 at 4.2 s, but I'm not sure the 65 can gain enough traction to produce a time of under 4 s. One can certainly dream though!
To comapre, they hustled an SL65 to that speed in 3.9 s... and a ringer SL600 in 3.6 s, which was the source of much confusion...

Thats true, I think a 4 sec 0-60 time is pretty much the best they'll get for the S65, though with the right amount of traction it could break in the mid 3's I think.

Car&Driver likes to peel rubber opon take off, this is why thay get impressive times. I don`t believe that start from a standstill like a normal tester should.
Thay did this with the SL600 and thay claimed a 0-60 time of 3.6sec vs 3.8sec thay claimed for the SL65.

Remember, Car & Driver and probably all of the other auto mags start timing 0-60, 0-100, 1/4 mile, etc. AFTER the car has already moved 12 inches. I think the NHRA does this at their drag races also. So, it's not really 0-60!
Car & Driver also uses a very high traction test surface, and "corrects" their timed results for temperature and altitude. After all, the manufacturers pay a lot for their ads, and it's in the magazine's best interest to present the cars they review in the best possible light. That's how they got 3.6 seconds 0-60 for an SL600.

The S65 does 0-60 in just over 4 seconds I believe. After all, it is a 2.5 ton car.
