Switzerland is a tough one for speeding and I had a couple of close calls. Since we lived there we knew where the speed cameras were, but when the Swiss police sets up speed traps, they actually close off the highway, ticket you and even escort you right to the bank if needed (usually foreign license plates). Speeding tickets can easily exceed $1000...
Mind you, I have been photographed many times, especially in Germany, France and the Netherlands as well. Never resulted into a ticket or even a letter though.
Having Swiss plates was great! It's a little know fact and maybe not accurate anymore today, but since Switzerland is not part of the EU the coordination between the government institutions were very limited. For small issues like speeding, driver information simply wasn't shared with other countries. Different than the EU countries which have existing data sharing agreements.
So nothing ever showed up
One other fetaure I loved in Switzerland, perfect for car collectors/buffs. Something I wish would be available in the US...
For example, if you have 5 cars but only drive one at a time you only need to insure the most expensive car for full coverage (the insurance automatically covers theft, vandalizing, etc. for the other cars)
Then you use special quick connect license plate mounts that allow you to move a license from one car to the next in seconds. Drive any car you want with minimal insurance costs. Very pragmatic
