Depreciation Scenario
This is a very very general question. I hear so many people say they would never buy a car with more than 50 miles on it, but yet these same people usually want an extensive test drive before they buy.
General question, say a dealer has an S550 on the lot with 100 miles on it and some prospective buyers see the car and are prepared to make an offer. Two weeks later the prospective buyers go back to the dealer and look at the same car, by this time the car has 1000 miles on it. How much less should the prospective buyers offer the dealer because of the additional miles on the car?
I don't want to mention any numbers here, I'm just trying to see if you guys think a new car is really worth that much less because it has big miles on it.

It is hard to put a number on it but if it was me I would say 5000-8000 off or even more if it had 1000 miles on it.(Compare it to the used s550 prices on eBay ...There are some with a couple thousand miles on there) I don't think that it makes that big of a difference but you have to be ok with the fact that there were 1000 miles test driven on the car. When most people test drive a car they usually don't take it easy on the car. Now if it were a turbo car that says you have to keep it under a certain rpm's for a certain amount of miles prior to the first oil change I would not even buy the car because people have probably taken the car to redline many times. The simple fact is it is not a new car.

I would look at another car! If it was test driven for those miles, I would bet that the break in was not completed as the owners manual suggests. My car had 50 miles on it when I picked it up, and I mentioned it to the sales manager and requested and received extra monies off the price. Good luck with your car.
