Designo error..

So, Greg from Glauser calls me last night and gives me an update on the status of my order (8PM New York Time, and was very up to date on my delivery schedule). He recieved a call from the people at the docks in Baltimore, asking if my car was sold, and if not, could they keep the car for photographs. Turns out that customers who ordered the Mocha Designo option are not accepting their cars as the pictures in the brochure are not the same configuration as what the pictures indicated. They wanted to email the photos to MB and show them the error.

Now, I saw actual pictures and I am more than pleased. But, 3 months ago when I sat at my local dealer and placed an order, i was using the pictures in the brochure as the basis for my decision. If you have the brochure, take a look at the designo page, then look at the photos I posted on my initial thread. Would you cancel, or keep the car????

BTW...Greg from Glauser is terrific, and if all goes well, my car should arrive at my office here in NY by the 31st. YEAH!

So you are more than pleased, yet you might cancel the car? What is there not to like in a Designo S550? You will have an awesome car, so enjoy!

No...I am NOT canceling this car. My question is if YOU ordered the car and received a completely different interior than expected, what would YOU do?

I am so excited to get this car in 2 weeks...not a shot of canceling. Besides, I already told my Audi salesman I wasn't taking the S8.

If it's not any trouble could you post a picture of the brochure and a picture of the actual thing so I can see what you're talking about?

I can't scan the photos from the brochure, but any dealer can give you the S class materials.

Taurian - I've just seen the S-Class brochure and studied your photos from the Glauser car in Baltimore. The interior in the Baltimore car looks like the Cognac Brown/Black that is standard in the Anniversary Edition SL550, and optional in the 2007 E-Class Sport. I noticed in the S-Class brochure that all three of the Designo packages are marked "Delayed Availability". I am surprised they are shipping substitute configurations. Does the Baltimore car have the Mocha Black exterior paint? Are the seats and dash Nappa leather? Is the wood Natural Maple? More importantly, do you like Cognac Brown (if that is the color)?

Will Glauser allow you to see the car in person before you decide? I can understand why others are refusing to accept their cars. When you pay $11,120 extra for exclusive colors, you have the right to be disappointed when the interior looks completely different than you expected.

The descrepancy is what I was referring to in my post in the linked thread above. The brochure photos for Mocha/Espresso look very different and even include an interior leather sample. So, it's completely reasonable for customers ordering that to have expected what the brochure displayed. I can imagine some of those folks are pissed as hell. I know I would be.

Personally, I like the brochure color scheme over the actual ones for the Espresso edition. Of course, my Designo choice for my 2008 W221 will be the Graphite. After seeing this, I may will make serious efforts to see it in person on a 2007 production model before I finalize my order.

Personally I agree with the original buyers and like the Armagnac Brown better. IMHO the darker interior is classier. However, I am rather conservative. But hey, it’s your call. Best of luck either way.

Dan, do you think the leather in the large picture is Cognac Brown? Hard to tell in a photo.

Seems too light in comparing it to the 07 E brochure as I think you’re doing. Call me crazy but it looks as though, with this particular vehicle, they simply reversed the carpeting/leather colors (color scheme) shown in the S brochure. Same coloring, still qualifies for Espresso edition only reversed from the brochure. All guess work - we’re working from brochures. Now I need a Remy Martin!

Yes , the lighter seat colour is very similar to my puke after too much red wine.Go darker, by the way , is it ok for me to comment in this atmosphere as I just own a S430 beater.

designo Espresso Edition - the scoop

The interior for the Espresso edition, Armagnac,is in fact the color which is appearing the cars. It is more orange than the sample in the brochure - almost the color of a basketball. The issue lies with the brochure which has the incorrect color leather color in the sample page. This apparently will be corrected in the subsequent printing of the brochure. The interior is correct, in that is it Armagnac (and not cognac brown). However, the brochure was wrong as the leather sample was clearly not armagnac.

Yes - colors are one of the most subjective things. Interesting to note, the armagnac color is nearly identical to the interior color "light brown" from the MY06 espresso edition. Colors like these, some love, some hate and some could care less. I think that is a good thing - these should be more unique compared to the standard colors.

I'm not sure "unique" is the correct adjective, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Nonetheless, it does make me rethink my conundrum of either selecting gray/dark gray or black/black in my next purchase. I guess it's all relative, but as long as Taurian is pleased, I'm pleased.
