Reintroduce Electronic Trunk Closer 881

So I cold called the MBUSA Client Assistance Center (CAC) today inquiring about the loss of the Electronic Trunk Closer, option 881. I was given the shtick that because of customer feedback through various surveys (phone and mail) and dealerships MBUSA removed this option because of non interest. When questioned how to return this option I was told through customer feedback by way of survey received or calling the CAC. Do I believe a call actually warrants attention – well let’s just say it won’t hurt!

Simply, if you want the electronic trunk closer back on the option list (as I do, as soon as possible I might add) call the CAC @ 1-800-FOR-MERCEDES and let them know.

So they will put a trunk closer on a lowly E-Class (and CLS), but not their flagship?

By now I’m sure everyone here is familiar with CAC accuracy hence the word “shtick”. The time to break ***** is now because when I trade up I want the damn trunk closer!

I'll be visiting a couple of dealers Monday (other business) and I'll see what they can pull up.

You got a S550 with a August build date? a friend of mine had a July build date and isn't due to receive their vehicle till mid-late September.

Plus makes it harder to commit suicide as shown by Jeremy Clarkson with the Maybach.

Lowly? Some E-Classes cost more than some S-Classes. AMGs with all options, for one.

I think this option is available on the Canadian website... so you should refer to your dealer for more information. Whatever we Canadians have, the Americans should. :o

i believe if you want to customize your car, get a list from germany -since they have all the options- use the codes when ordering your car in the US, and make sure you're dealing with an experienced, cooperative rep who should be eager to explore new options and new possibilities.

AsianML, what episode are you talking about? do you have a link? <<< bored at work

Easier said than done. MBUSA controls what can and cannot be ordered in the US and the ordering system will just not accept the order if the codes do not match what MBUSA has approved for US sale.

I think this is the one. It's at the very end though.

Well 3 dealers visited and they’re all sticking to the story (as previously reported here on the forum) that it is not a MB or MBUSA problem but rather a vendor problem. In as much as the option has not been discontinued it is only being offered when the parts in whole are available for installation at the assembly line. So if you cannot find what you want (or close to it) with a closer by searching stock then it is more or less hit and miss when placing your factory order.

See what I mean about the CAC – shtick plain and simple!

And what gives if, in fact, the closer is available in Canada. Don't both U.S. and Canadian vehicles come off the same assembly line? Unless they’re alternating availability between the two.

2007 S600, 2002 S430, Bently Continental GT coming soon..., Falcon 50.
I have the trunk closer on my 2007 S600 in Germany. I was looking into ordering a new S550 here and they told me that the trunk closer is no longer available. Guess its only a US market thing. If you really wanted it, I'm sure you could order the vehicle from Europe and have it shipped (just make sure its to US specs).

Guys - the info you are getting regarding 881 electronic trunk closer is incorrect. The option has always been available on the 221. However, due to strong demand, no orders were taken for 881 for several months of production. It is now being opened up and additional capacity secured with the supplier in Germany. This option is extremely popular in the US and I can assure you it will never be eliminated. As times progresses, this option will have full availability. This is an issue for all morkets, not just the US, as the supplier is the same.

Yes I understand they didn’t eliminate it as the CAC would have us believe. MBUSA should 1099 some of us guys here on the forum. In comparison, the info dealt out would be right for a change! Now then, any chance of finding out how soon it will become available for the MBUSA market per new factory order?

I would agree with IluvS500 because on my '07 S600 standard features list it does include the Trunk Closer option. Therefore I would agree that it will still be an option on the new S-Class.

Push a little harder, I'm sure she'll close without one.
