You've got to be on crack to not see that. They clearly share the same body. Sure, Audi isn't a VW, but everyone knows the A6 and Passat are built on the same body platform as are the A8 and Phaeton. Or a Town Car and Crown Victoria - same body. The Avalon and LS are obviously built on the same shell.

Well actually the A6 and Passat are not the same body, they don't even use the same engines anymore. The Passat is based on a collection of a Rabbit/Golf/Jetta/Eos chassis components. The A6 is based on a different platform.

Man, and I always thought my wife is the worst when it come to car knowledge, since she can't tell the difference between lot of car.

However, to say that a FWD and RWD car have same platform, you really beat her

Just a little secret, pls don't tell anyone: the Infinity M45 and the Nissan Sentra built on the same shell too

Seconded! And now that we know all vehicles with similar silhouettes share platforms, we have discovered the secret link between the Fiat Panda, VW Golf, Dodge Omni, and BMW 1-Series.

By the way, NeverColdCall, the Phaeton doesn't share a platform with the A8. It shares a platform with the Bentley Continental GT/GTC/Flying Spur. Similar componentry, same engines, different chassis. One hint: one is steel, the other aluminium.

My mistake. You get my point though, I know that the Jag XK and Aston Martin do in fact share the same body but you'll never hear someone use that to denigrate the Aston. My point being who cares if the LS and Toyota are built on the same platform?

Gotcha. I have noticed that the cluster and console on the Continental are almost identical to the Phaeton. I've also read in forums that they share the same electrical problems, not sure if that's true though it would make sense.

zam2000 - Hmmm, okay.

Anyway, seems like there is a lot of 'hate' for the LS - don't know why, I thought MB owners would rather hate the 7-Series (MB/BMW rivalry), but anyway it was just my own opinion - and as I said, the Benz is better, but I think the LS is still a good car, especially to those that have them (or both).

No sane owner would buy an S550/S600 and a LS460l/LS500hl.

Lets face it the LS bombed out of the C&D test with flying colors, and I expect it to bomb out of Road and Track, Motortrend, and any other car comparison with the S550 and others.

LS test drive

A nicely fitted car, but it felt like driving a 1968 lincoln

Most important for me - the darn driver seat does not go BACK far enough for tall people so leg room is limited (there is more leg room in the GS). You get to drive around all this empty back seat room while you are pushed up against the wheel and brake pedal. About that break pedal, why is it much closer to the driver than the accelerator pedal? ( the new GS Lexus has the break and accelerator at the same level making it easy to switch back and forth) one has to raise their leg way up and over the to brake. It is like driving a manual 1952 oldsmobile which had that huge manual brake pedal way off of the floor. Oh, and one final complaint for us tall guys, WHEN you put on the brake and have to raise your leg way up to do it - your knee will hit the badly placed cruise control lever sticking out at the 4 o'clock position from the steering whee. Not the car for me.
