How can I adjust instrument cluster illumination?

I have two little knobs that will turn endlessly in either direction but nothing happens. The book says that the brightness is adjusted automatically according to ambient light. If this is true, what are the little knobs for? And/or how can I adjust the instrument lights manually?

The right knob controls the COMAND screen brightness and the left the dash display. Counter clockwise dims the displays and clockwise brightens it. It is a little delayed so adjust slightly and wait for the level selected. Make sure the key is active to light up the panel.

Thanks! Believe I was turning the knobs too fast.

I went to the navadajack website and those pictures were so very sad. I'm not an emotional person but I had a hard time holding the tears back. I only hope that you have friends or other family members that help you cope. My heart goes out to you.
