Does the S550 have two batteries?

My S600 has one small one under the hood for starting and one large one in the trunk for service? I've never heard anyone discuss this...was surprised when I found this configuration on my car.

The large battery is the primary, and does the starting. It is in the trunk for better weight distribution. The secondary battery keeps the management computers from losing power and needing major resetting when the primary goes dead (or is disconnected). It also assures you can use Tele Aid when you have a dead primary battery.

This configuration is used in several models.

If you have a recharger set, it's connected to the front battery but in addition it loads the back battery, too. It's highly recommended if not using your car for 2 weeks or more.
