Drove to work today with no keys

I started the car and thought I had the spare in my briefcase so I handed the other one to my wife as I drove off. Sure enough the only reminder I got that I pulled a bonehead move was when I was trying to lock the car at work.
Oh well, it helps to live 3 miles from work and have a wife with a sense of humour.

Mercedes all the way!
hmmm.. that's very strange..

my E refuses to go anywhere unless the key is constantly inside the car. it would show the "Key Not Found" message on the dashboard if i remove the key and try to drive off.

i would think this is a basic safety and convenience feature?

I think the car was running and he handed her what he thought was the spare key. Once the car is running it doesn't need the key to keep going, but when he pushed the button and shut it off and wanted to lock it, it would not lock with out the key. My interpretation anyway...

Bingo, sir.
Once the car is on, you can shift into drive without the key in the car.

Keyless Go

Thats not right!!! You should be able to leave the car on without the key but no be able to engage DRIVE. The car should shut down if you try to put it into drive. Additionally, you should be able to lock the car (from the outside) with the key in your pocket and the ignition on... Again, shutting down if you try to engage Drive.

My take on KEYLESS GO functionality!

I have keyless in my 220 and when you try to drive without the key in the vehicle, the multi function display goes red with a message saying that the key isn't in the vehicle. I think it may also sound and audible beep if I remember correctly. They must have changed that in the 221.

These days who "runs into the store with the car running" anyway. If I go into 7/11, I lock the car...all it takes is a touch of the handle.

I don't understand all these problems with the KG feature. I leave the key in my pocket and just drive the way anyone else would. There is no mystery to using it...
