wow....i missed all the flaming. Such negativity.....im glad i dont own any of it. I never knew we had so many people reading the S subforum.

Back to topic....I think the suicide doors are cool, but it's still a caddy. Is it the attention you want, or do you want to drive? Cuz i know those doors dont do much for the handling or acceleration of the car. The badge....i think i started it all. Good luck and hope there arent people near your badged S550 like here who will probably scratch it just to "teach you a lesson", although they really only do it to knock someone down so that they feel better about themsleves.

peace

Question for the haters and you know who you are.

Do you expect him or any other S550, CLS,SL or CL owner to remove their rims that say AMG. Where do you stand on this one?

A really irrelevant question...the rims are part of the AMG package and come installed on the car. The AMG Badge is not supplied on the S550 as part of the car at any time, option or standard.

I am not a "hater" but feel the car looks better without the AMG Badge when it is not an AMG model. To each his own....

My better judgement tells me to adhere to your signature and bow to your "experience."

is a German Tank
Snoop -

Congratulations on both vehicles.

The Caddy is just STUNNING. Not really fond of the rims, but looks amazing regardless.

The S...well what can I say - SIMPLY GORGEOUS! You drive a car that diplomats, royalty, and the wealthy drive - at 21 you're doing it amigo.

The prestige that comes along with a car like that is second-to-none.

Congratulations!

Ahh but you will not know the sheer joy of the S-Class until you're on I-10 in the middle of nowhere with the cruise control set at 125 mph. For me it's totally worth a few rock chips

Cake, your question was far from irrelevent, rather it was direct and right on the money, and i totally see your point. Also Reelestates, that was funny ' posse patrol ;, but it is more like the badge bandits, they are always on the lookoput for a ;poser;,as if one little amg badge on the back of a 100k plus car ruins it... i simply dont get it, ... And snoop, fo shizzle my brother for keeping the badge on, rock on bro !!

Kind of a bad comparison if you ask me. Cars from the factory come with those rims on them right? I don't think the factory puts AMG emblums on cars that arn't AMG models (cls55,e55,etc.etc.)

You better be careful. You are close to the mechanical speed limit of the car and also near the speed limititation of the tires.

the rims are amg, the body parts are amg, thats why they have the badge.
the complete car isnt amg thats why it shouldnt have a badge, how hard is that to understand

that is one of the most retarded questions ive ever seen on mbworld, and ive seen some bad ones

the meachanical limit of a s550 is at around 165, due to drag.

tires are a different story but ive done 150+ on tires that should have been thrown away a long time ago. w/ the sport package, the tires are good for 150+

close to mechanical limit at 125
were you serious?

I don't understand why we are carrying on the same inane argument on two different threads concurrently. This is a simple situation where on one hand you have people who are either inept and don't understand that their argument makes no sense and on the other hand purists. When a car comes from the factory with the AMG badge on the back that means it has TUNING options, not solely body kits, because AMG is a TUNING company. Perhaps we keep seeing these amateurish arguments because they cannot formulate an intelligent statement of their thoughts and just say the silly things that come to their minds. For the rest of us, as so many sigs seem to say (although not all are spelled properly) lets not argue with idiots; they love the attention and they know why ard why not a car is AMG.

What it comes down to is that we have car enthusiast here who respect the cars and love cars for what they are, and then we have people who own expensive cars because they love what it does to their facade and are only concerned about their image. Either way these arguments are dumb, I posted a diatribe on the other thread where this is being brought up, and one on this thread. I will see you guys when we start talking about more sensible things on this forum...

To both Buffer and AMG 55:

I believe the normal S550 and S600 are limited to 132 mph, which is not neccessarily the top speed.

Limited on the Sport S-Classes is 155 mph, IIRC.

Top speed, unlimited, on the S550 is somewhere around 170+.

i know its limited, i guess i misunderstood the statement and he mis worded it

the car is no where near its mechanical limit at that speed

Hey Asian, Here's the way I understand it. If the car comes from the factory with ZR rated tires, the speed is not mechanically limited to 132mph. My car does not have ZR tires...even though they are Continental 19"ers. My Corvette does have ZR tires and Corvette openly advertises that the car will do 186mph...and is not limited.

To complicate matters further, my S600 tires have a 96Y designation and according to the manual they have a speed rating of 186mph. So I don't have a clue what the top speed is of my car.

Regarding top speed, if my car is mechanically limited to 132mph, then that's the top speed as far as I'm concerned. That's as fast as I can go and the fact that it would go faster by removing the limiter does me no good...I don't know how to do that. Ergo my top speed is 132mph.

BTW, you post a lot of good stuff...you have a heck of a knowledge base. Keep it up. I learn a lot.

That's where it gets confusing, as you explained it.

I'm pretty sure the S600 is capable of speeds a little over 200 mph, unlimited, granted you have the right tires. Jeremy Clarkson of Top Gear managed to get a Phaeton W12 up to 210 once.

I've done a little reading and I found that the 2006 S600 is limited to 155. So I guess the 2007 S600 must be around there.

Who knows. Maybe we can get a German member to test it for us!
