130 MPH speed limit on a S600 ??????
I had a very long conversation with the Mercedes service guru manager who says he programs the speed limiter based on the tire rating. He indicated that the limiter is set from the factory at 155 for the S600 if the tires are rated over 155. He says he can change the limiter if the tires allow.
It appears that my car has Y tires which apparantley are rated for 186. So he assures me that my car is limited to 155 and it's an S600 2007
..........as far as your claim of US bound cars being limited due to the fact that we in the states have poor tires, I think the following post by another member directly contradicts your claim.
Posted by whoever:
I don't think so. It seems to be confirmed by the S550/S600 manual. Page 484 says:
An electronic speed limiter prevents your vehicle from exceeding a speed of 130 mph (210 km/h). The factory equipped tires on your vehicle may have a speed rating above the maximum speed permitted by the electronic speed limiter.
There is no mention in the book of any 155 mph limiter.
..........I perfectly understand that the top speed limit can be different from country to country, but what is absulutely clear now is that most, perhaps not all Mercedes benz cars have been limited to 130mph for a long time, despite 155mph gentlemans agreement. Perhaps yours too. Anyone who's manhood was dependent on the 155mph limiter maybe dissapointed. The task is to find the few that are limited at 155mph. It may just be the AMG cars only.

I am not emphasizing car brands, only you want to percieve it that way. I am emphasizing that I was talking based on real world experience, not some kind of BS.
And I have nothing to add after cmcjo's post.
Except: Maybe this datasheet will help you. Look for "Höchstgeschwindigkeit" (=max. speed). (250km/h = 155.376mph).

I have a great straight and downhill highway in PA and now I decide to pay close attention to the speedometer..and from 80 to 132 in like 4 seconds. To my surprise my 600 shuts down and doesnt go past 133 or so.
So there.. not only did I not go 140 obviously as I said, but the freaking guru top guy service manager who was so positive about the 155 top speed was wrong..
What's the point of this high speed driving? While at first a rush, if you're doing it for hours straight, it gets pretty boring, IMHO.
On top of that, your tires are wearing at an abnormal rate, and the fuel is getting consumed twice as fast as average! Not to mention the danger if you encounter something in your path.
Thrill is not in the speed alone, but compiling various driving skills such as those found in GT racing. I long for the track.
155mph is the perfect top speed for the U.S., I have done it a few times and the sound the engine makes when the fuel stops spraying is pretty cool. The best place to do this is the Turnpike between exits 14 & 13A but if a trooper clocks your vehicle @155 you will probably be locked up.

What about Z rated tires? I think that is what my Camaro has (BF Goodrich KD)? I think the limiter on it was 155 or something from the factory but I bumped it to 255 with my PCM programmer. I have only been 146 mph in it and it was pulling hard but that is pretty fast, even on the interstate with no cars. I hit 140 the other day in it.

............I think you are confused. No one in the US is unable to tell the speed ratig f their tire. The issue is if the cars are top speed limited to 130mph. They apparently are limited to 130mph as evidenced by Cmcjo's car. f course this does not mea that these cars cannot be later delimited. so posting the speedometer of a car driven at over 130mph is not really sigificant as the car could have been delimited. However, posting the speedometer f a car unable to travel past 130mph is significant because no one ordinarily goes out of their way to limit their car.

Maybe some non-US cars are not limited to the 130 like my US car?
Either way man, 130 MPH is freaking fast enough!
Expect a few years in the slammer if your in an accident at that speed.
I'd like to know where all of you are able to cruise at 130 - 155 mph all day long in sheer bliss? I don't understand the point for ~200 mph speed in the US or even the overcrowded Autobahn (which is becoming more and more stringent on speed limitations as traffic increases).
Besides that:
155 mph sucks down tons of gas and wears tires down to the cords many times faster than cruising at 100 mph or below.

Ok, lol when i got the maxima i really didnt expect it to be that fast , becuase i drove the auto 1 before and it was SLOW , up to 130 i was a bumper in front of e430, i ate e420 for lunch , up to 140 half a fender with 745 btw when i just the car , head to head with 3 different g35's 6 speed 2006 COUPES , and when i was racin an NSX ,it ate me, but i reached a 145.
Btw my maxima recently got stolen and crashed , and my insurance company is trying to blame it all on me ,so when its " hopefully" going to be fixed i might videotape few Runs.
Thanks.
I missed this Marchs registration so I was stuck watching.
There is also a company from Houston there that can delimit your car.
