Cell Phone Signal And Infrared Windows
I hope I haven't posted this message on this forum before. I have a 2007 S550 and am experiencing signal problems with my cellular phone. This wasn't a problem with my old 2000 S430. I have decided it is related to the infrared windows since I can roll down a window and increase the signal and improve voice quality. Is there any way to boost the signal short of keeping the phone in the cradle( I bought one and it helps)? The cradle destroys the main reason for the bluetooth anyway.

Unfortunately the answer is no. As the car is equipped with IR/ noise reducing glass, the only way to get better cell phone reception is to have a phone in the cradle as this permits use of the external antenna.
yes this is a certain sacrifice in convenience but the IR and noise reducing glass in the S-Class has some very impressive benefits in terms of noise reduction and heat deflection. Until someone comes up with a better solution, you must doc your phone to get full signal strength.

OR - get bluetooth. I know people have had problems with their bluetooth module - however, I think the first units were defective because my service advisor at MB manhattan gave me a new one at no cost - and i have no issues. I hear the person perfectly, and they hear me perfectly, they cant even tell IM on bluetooth!
AND i get all 5 bars of service..........with windows and shades up!

Even with the BT module, you are still not getting as good a signal as you would with a docked phone using the exterior antenna. While of course this is relatively speaking, 5 bars is 5 bars, docked or undocked. However, for people who are having trouble with the signal strength in the 221, the exterior antenna will always be better on a comparative basis. I too get great reception with just the BT. However, using the Razr BT/hybrid cradle, I do notice a difference in signal strength when the phone is docked. Again, this may have more to do with the coverage in my area, but I still do notice this.
