Wow, I'm sorry to hear. Damage doesn't look too bad, but I guess replacement of the whole bumper may very be likely.

Just a small FYI, its a Villager, not a Voyager.

We Just got the police report today - so we have to confirm it. The thing is - the police report has all her contact info - driver liscence, address.. and i have her plates, so if she ever gave incorrect info - my police friends can trace the plates to her - and then she is in a heap of trouble.......

Obviously get the money for the damage and depreciation, but don't hurry fixing it. I hope this is your first and last accident but i drive on these same New York roads and they haven't been kind to my car.

I had something similar happen to me. Some guy was cutting perpendicular to traffic and pulled into my lane, smashing into my C280's left front corner, causing $4k in damage. The a$$wipe and his buddy were trying to convince the police officer to let him off easily. Me, being a law student, told him it was improper to talk to the officer without me being present, unless the officer specifically asked to speak to him. I got a "f*ck you," and then the officer told him to go to his car. The guy told me I was traveling down my lane too fast. I countered that, because I was coming up to a red light! Also, he was too stupid to realize that I have the complete right of way, since I'm in MY LANE and he made an improper exit from a gas station, cutting across traffic.

Christian is a nice guy. His desk is next to my former SA, Mike Raso, who is also top notch. The bodyshop is good but I wouldn't say great...unless a "higher-up" oversees the work. With that said, make sure you introduce yourself to the bodyshop manager, Chris. There is also another guy, Rob who helps expedite things and usually is the one dealing with the insurance companies and verifies QA. When my C32 was in the shop, the insurance adjuster tried to talk them into using an aftermarket bumper or just filling and spraying it. Rob made sure that all damage was replaced, not repaired using OEM parts and process.

PS- Get used to speaking with Mirabel. She is the only one that picks up the phone.

I just don't get people like this. You run into someone and then have the gall to get an attitude with the person you hit. Unbelievable!

Wow sorry to hear that Chucky300...make sure you have the body shop check for crumble zones, you know the steel bar behind the metal bumper that's holding it up, and replace those if they are damaged.

.

This reminds me of the police department in my city. I once saw an undercover or off duty cop in plain cloth arrest a hit and run driver, he had the guy in cuffs in front of the crashed car in the middle of the street for almost 30mins before his "re-enforcements" arrived. I almost feel bad for him as he just stood there with the bad guy in cuffs as the traffic zips by for half an hour with all those people watching.

One would think they show up faster when one of their own needs help but they took their sweet time.

Christian and mike are both top notch. I remmeber when Christian was on Vacation, i dealt with Mike and it was just as smooth> there are a few there that are not quite as good......... no names.
I met everyone yesterday at the bodyshop - and Christian will personally oversee this repair..... he knows me well and Im sure it will be great in my case..... (they know i wont accept just "good")
I told the bodyshop manager, i dont want ANY aftermarket parts/paints, or anything repaired.... it must be REPLACED..... i want it as it was when it came from the factory.... no ifs, ands, or buts..... This wasnt my fault, and i dont care WHAT their insurance company says......... my car..... my right of way.... and thats that. He agreed and told me they would never compromise with them.

I hate to be a downer and I know it's kind of 'wrong' but the car with more damage on it usually is the safer car to be in as that means the car is absorbing the energy from the impact.

Not to say the Mercedes didn't, I'm sure it did but under the bumper.

I'd rather total a Land Cruiser than just have a bumper removal in a Yukon... it's about the tranfer of energy and where it gets dissapated to. The occupant -- or the car.

Reminds me of my mom...

This actually happened to my mom's car (CL600). A teenage girl merged into the lane while not looking and hit the rear side of my mom's car and had the nerve to say that she was going too fast and that she had 'skid marks' from her tires. How are there going to be skid marks from going too fast and the girl hit her from the rear side? The police officer took the girl's story over my mom's. Keep in mind that the girl's car was like an old Cavalier or something. It was totally damaged. My mom's car had a buffable scratch with no real impact on the rear of the bumper. Anyhow, my mom's rates are up and the girl has a new car. That's life.

Well - you are right. of course, had this been a highspeed crash - I think the mercedes has a crumple zone that would have reacted to absorb the energy. Otherwise, yes, it would be very unsafe for passengers since WE would be the one absorbing the impact.

Wait Wait........ this girl merged into ur moms lane from behind..... and hit her from behind.....Why would the police take this kids side over ur moms? there has to be more to the story...... in any event, a rear hit is the fault of the person hitting....... I dont understand...... Something has to be wrong here. The police arent even the ones to make that call... they can just put down the 2 sides of the story on the police report, and then it goes to insurance and they duke it out.... laws.

Actually not ALWAYS, but in most cases yes.
I don't remember the circumstances, but I do remember that.

My sister in her X5 was rearended not too long ago and the officer that showed up explained that although 99.999% of the time it's the fault of the rear-ender, there are some situations where that's not true.
The police arent even the ones to make that call
In Texas, at least how I remember it, the police assign blame.

Wow l learned something. Maybe its NY........ because the police said, no matter WHAT, even if I was DRINKING.....she hit me from behind.....Id be arrested for drinking, but she'd pay for my bumper.
Here - the police just jot down what happened...............

I'm pretty sure here in NJ the police can issue a ticket and place blame. Then it goes to court.

Sounds crazy, but that's how it went. The girl was crying and the cop heard both sides of the story. The officer felt sorry for the girl. Besides, a woman driving a $130K Benz can afford it. This is how they think...wait a minute, if it's not a Ford or Chevy, then it must be expensive. Even the adjuster was on the cop's side. The adjuster called and said that they're helping the girl give her a new car. My mom was talking to them and she yelled, "You know what? You AND THE COP are idiots!" She then hung up in their face. I told my mom to change insurance companies, and it is utterly absurd to have such an incident and have no sympathy.

It's examples like this which keep reminding me that racism is alive and kicking, even in 2007. Mind you, we're in the bootheel of SE Missouri, where asian's and black ppl aren't looked too high upon, ESPECIALLY when they're successful. I have several other stories, but this one was one relating to this situation.
