Purchasing another s550

Going to purchase another s550 on sunday. I think i will be going with the AMG package this time. Either black/tan or white/beige. P2 is a must. If i get white/beige, i will be getting pano. I will also get wood steering wheel, because i have never owned a car with that. I will post pics the day i get the car. Any other options that i should consider. Also, the reason im getting another s550 is because i gave my obsidian black/beige one to my father. Was wanting a flying spur but maybe when my lease ends on my new one.

ABC and Multicontour, dynamic seats are a must have in my estimation. Since you have owned one already you are pretty much aware of the features on the car. White/Beige is a great combo!

I'd go with the Designo Mystic White.

Yep, I second that. Definitely a beautiful car.

In my case, adding Designo on top of all the other features I wanted would have been a bit much. In your case, given your car collection, I'm guessing you would never even notice the extra $10k. So I would go for it.

And as NJ said, I think ABC and the multicontours are good features to have. And I'm a big fan of the distronic plus.

Why not get rid of one of two of your lesser cars and get the S65! Personally, that's what I would do in your position. Who needs a CLK anyway?

I love the wood steering wheel, it looks much better than the standard one to me, because it is covered in leather. The standard one has a plastic cover over the airbag section.

i loved having the wood steering wheel...made me feel very special. i still like it whenever i see them, but i'm ok with my sports leather on my 2001 E55.

as for your colors, it's funny you mentioned white/tan. my favorite combo has always been white/blk. many co's used to do that, but for some reason they're always white/tan or white/grey now. whenever i see the white/blk now, i think it's so special and unique. just my $.02.

I wonder how much it would be to replace the airbag cover on the standard wheel with the leather one from the wood wheel.

Because I agree, the leather looks much nicer. However, I personally don't like the feel of the wood. The change in texture/feel going from the leather to wood bothers me (I shuffle-steer). And when my ring hits the wood it's like fingers on a chalkboard to me.

So I had to go with the standard wheel. But I wish I could get the leather airbag. I've had that on my last two Porsches (they offer that as a factory option).

Went to buy the s550

I went to buy the car that they stated they had in stock, but they never had it. Therefore i looked at another $97,xxx msrp white/biege one with the following options: p2, amg, ipod kit, rear camera. I did not want the ipod kit, nor did i want the camera but i tried to work out a deal. They're crazy. They want 5 down $1700 a month. I was paying 1300 for my old one with a $93,xxx msrp. I feel that i need to have the wood steering wheel, because the non wood looks cheap. I also wouldnt mind pano on the white, but south bay did not have any. For some reason, they had 3 jade green s550s. I can get the quattroporte for $2000 a month or a flying spur for around $2300. Why would i even pay 1700 for a car that is more common then a camry? What pissed me off is that they were going to give me a black on black s550 with a $97xxx sticker for $1350 a month, but i went their and they said $1700. South bay is approx. 45 minutes from my house. I guess ill drop by at beverly hills mercedes tomorrow to see what they can do. Anyone know where i can get a great deal from?

What were the lease terms? (Term, residual, MF)?

My S550 and S65 both have the wood steering wheel. I like it so much better because of the stitching on the wheel.

I do not know the residual, but they were taking $4600 off msrp with 5 down 50 month lease with 12k annual mileage. I got $6000 off on my first s550, but since the general manager has changed, south bay is not the same. I was expecting $8000 off sticker. All i know is that i will not buy the car until i get the best deal. I was about to lease a $90 msrp 750li, but i dont want to own a 745 and a 750. They were giving it for 1150 a month with only $3500 down with a 36 month lease and 12k annual mileage. As far as the wood steering wheel goes, i really like the sticking also and will probably end up buy one with that option. I do not want a really loaded 550 because this is not my evening nor weekend driver. I drive to my job sites with this and to my office. I tend to drive the grandsport on the evenings and weekends. Also, somone asked my why i own a clk350, i leased this car for my son.

You could change it out, but its not just an airbag cover, you would have to change the entire airbag unit, which would probably cost a lot.

Im serious. These people think im stupid. I have probably got them over 30 customers, and they still do not help us out. It is just like when my brother purchased an slr from Roy Lopez. My brother called him to buy a cl550 for a everyday car, but he wouldnt go less then $2000 a month. Too bad for them. I will not take more than a 36 month lease. I do not want a 39 month lease either because i do not want to pay for registration for 3 months. Its pointless.

Agreed. Best looking interior I've ever seen. Wish the CL 63 had the designo option.

Well, to be fair, BMW's buy rates that they offer dealers on the 7 series is far lower than than what Mercedes offers their dealers on the S. So leasing a 7 will definitely be cheaper.

But what money factor was the dealership trying to sell you?

$8k seems like a large discount. But I guess you're a very good customer, so I can understand that. But it seems that $5-6 is more typical.

Wow, they really are nuts. It's not a year ago when they first came out and were impossible to get. It's still a hot product, but they should not be that unwilling to negotiate. Hell, they are even giving big discounts on S600s if you look on eBay. I know you're on the west coast, but the only impossible to get S-Class over here right now seems to be the 4Matic model and the upcoming S63.

Btw, sort of unrelated, but does anyone have any idea of how many S600s are sold each year in the US?

Ok, i found the exact car I want, therefore I am trying to see if i can get the dealers to swap the car. It is arctic white (never knew existed) with the savanna interior. It has p2, pano, 19" multispokes, night view assist (didnt want), wood steering wheel, and electric trunk. MSRP is around $95500. I need a car asap because i only own 3 cars right now and its not enough. The Maserati is now gone also. Im getting a deal that is close to mine, but it is not as good as they can do. I will try to finish the deal tonight so i can drive my new car home. I will let you know what deal i got after i purchase the car. Also, i will let you guys know who i purchased the car from. He seems like a great guy.

Good luck! White/beige is a very nice combo. Does this car have the AMG package?

I only know of two whites for the S-class (in the US at least). Alabaster and the designo mystic white. What does arctic look like?

Alabaster White replaced Arctic White midyear '06. This car would have an early build date.

Cool. Didn't know that. So arctic was just for a few months then on the W221? How different is arctic versus alabaster?

06CLK350, what is the build date on this car you're looking at?

Excuse the brain fart. It's the other way around. Arctic replaced Alabaster for 2007 builds. My understanding is that they're emptying the pipe of Alabaster and now using Arctic.

Arctic is the older white that was used until a couple of years ago. It's a bit bluer than Alabaster, but these are very subtle differences. A salesman joked that they went back to Arctic because none of the salesmen could spell Alabaster.
