Would a S500 be as fast as a C32AMG?

Would a S500 be as fast as a C32AMG?

Hi guys.

I'd like to trade up my C32 AMG soon, MY01 ie 3.2 V6 SC circa 350 BHP and torque.
Love the look and space of the new S class. Would the 500 be as fast as my C32?

Many thanks

It's the S550 here in the US but I guess they are called S500 everywhere else in the world. I don't think the S would be as fast as the C32AMG. the S class weights a lot more than the C32AMG and based on that, the C32AMG will definetly pull away from the S class in a straigh line.

But the S550 does have more horsepower and torque, so after the initial start, I think the S550 would leave the C32 a little. But 0-60, yeah, the C32 is much lighter (and damn fast!); so in terms of speed, the S550 is not so much different. But hey, it's not all about speed mate!

Depends upon aero-efficiency.

The C32 AMG has a frontal area that is a great deal less than the S550 (23.6 sqft vs 26.9 sqft). I am assuming the drag coeefficient is about 0.26 for the S, and 0.27 for the C32 AMG.

So, with 382 hp, the S550 will top out, unrestricted: 175 - 180 mph.

And a C32 AMG will grace about the same speed. The C32 may be a mph or two faster, despite the hp advantage of the S550 (it has to push away all of that air).

So, the C32 AMG will be slightly quicker all the way to its top speed, thanks to its lower weight.

It looks like you'll need to move up to an S600, S63 or S65. Otherwise you'll be miserable and life will no longer be worth living.

Not to mention cornering, the C would tame the circuit.

BTW, I have never seen a picture of any S-class on a circuit track. These things are boats, but it would be fun (I'd imagine ABC would help it a great deal).

it's quite meaningless to compare S with C
