EZ Pass Problem

I just moved my EZ Pass to the new S550 and went through 4 tolls yesterday without the EZ Pass being read. I'm using the ez-clip with the suction cups to hold it on. I've tried it with the writing facing away from the windshield and towards it.
Does anyone here know if the S550 has the kind of glass that needs a special tag?

The S550 has IR glass and therefore electronic signals cannot be transmitted through it. The manual clearly shows where there are cutouts in the glass for these types of things. Look for windshield in the table of contents.

Thanks. Manual? What manual? Just kidding but I just didn't think of consulting the manual. Thanks again.

+1 on the plate mounted tag, I've been them on all our cars and have not experienced any problems.

By the way, if your car/plate is registered on EZPASS.com, even if the tag failed to read, it'll credit your account if it matches your plate to your account. And this works even if you have multiple vehicles registered to your account.

Stealth EZ-Pass

My exterior ez-pass is mounted below the (W220) bumper, on the black mesh, with 2 black wire ties. It works like a charm and is virtually invisible.

I had an exterior EZPass tag when I lived in North Jersey (Hillsdale) but dumped it after the first good snow. Driving down the GSP (or Garden State Parkinglot as I call it), I got so much frozen slush caked on the tag, it wouldn't read. But yes - NJTA and EZPass will graciously match your tag number and suck money out of your account at will. If you are driving a rental and blow through an EZPass express lane, they'll even track you down and send you a nasty gram informing you that you owe them a whopping $0.35. The postage, envelope and processing to produce that letter was probably 3 times the toll due, but hey - it's Jersey

I have mine in the black mesh area to the left of the rearview mirror. I mounted it against the top of the glass edge with the writing facing towards the driver and have no problems yet. i've been using it for the last 8 months since delivery in last july.

EZ Tag in Houston

Placing the EZ Tag in the Black area next to the rear view mirrow works. This EZ Tag also opens the gate to my neighborhood, and it reads with no problems. The manual is not very clear about this, but the correct placement is right on the black area to either side of the mirror.

I've noticed that my Illinois IPASS fails to set off the blue light at the tolls, but I haven't gotten any notices yet. I guess they have my information in their database, but I think I might consider moving the module to the cut-out or try the front plate mount.

When my dad bought the S550..he had the same problem and flagged down a guy sitting in traffic with the same car..

my dad puts it in the center of the front windshield all the way down almost touching the dashboard..if you place it there it will work..just make sure its in the center and all the way to where the dashboard meets the window..hope that helps...

oops didnt see a previous post..but that diagram (two or three posts up from mine)..where the number three is..s where you should put it..

Hi-

What have people here done to mount the external ezpass transpoders on the front license plate? The bumper has a huge pointed curve at the center where the plate mounts and the plate itself follows that curve. However, the ezpass transponder is made of hard plastic and can't be bent. Is there some sort of spacer I can buy so that the transponder can be mounted flat?

Thanks.

I used black cable ties through the black mesh on my CL. My earlier message 3/2007 was on my S500 and the attached picture is now on my CL63. Nobody can see it and I haven't missed an EXPass yet.

Thanks! I guess I can do the same. I was also thinking of buying washers and 'padding' the plate screws with it until it levels.

My 2010 has Driver Assist but no Night View Assist.

Does anyone know whether I should have the Night View Assist windshield, as opposed to the stock winshield? Because I only visually seem to have one clear spot to the left of the mirror, and I want to put EZPass (actually FasTrak) on the right side of the mirror.

The reason I ask is because I think Lane Assist uses the same IR camera that Night View Assist would use, so maybe It requires the same windshield.

Thanks.

Exterior tags are the way to go. I received about 6 summons in the mail the first 2 weeks I bought my vehicle.

How did you deal with the fact that the front plate is bent? FasTrak offers a front plate unit but it's flat and unbendable.

Anyway it's moot for now because they are currently out of stock on it.

I have mounted a handful of Ipass(Illinois) transponders in the cowl of the hood. I just took the rain tray down from the bottom of the hood, and secured the transponder. They seem to work much better than from behind the IR protected glass and it keeps the transponder out of harms way on the front bumper. It also works better now that many cars have the curved front plate brackets.

Unfortunately, no, they weren't on my cars. And you can't even see the transponder in the cowl anyways.

Nick, could you elaborate on this a bit more? Is the transponder under the metal of the hood?

Are tools required to do this? What is the "rain tray?"

thanks.
