BMW drivers get no respect, especially in LA, good choice on the switch up, maybe one day BMW will replace their exterior and interior design department and make some nice looking cars

Hence why E55/63's, which now sell more in the U.S. market than any other market in the world only come in AUTO, and it'll remain that way.

I've drive the M3 SMG, it's pretty good, but not as good as a stick.

I don't think so. SMG is an attempt to develop a system that can match the current top-end sportscar market trend, such as Ferrari's F1 shift. I believe the M5/M6 models have been developed with the SMG deep in their mind from the beginning. Ferrari's F1 gearboxed cars are selling more than 50% of their sales for years now. It's just the way it is. they have to come out with something better than traditional stick shift because the market demands it.

take a look at M5 6spd which was released a year after SMG. this car really doesn't perform as well as the SMG model. if BMW meant to make the M5 with 6spd, they would've offered it before SMG.

Bingo. The M5's engine, and therefore the M6, were designed to fit specifically with the latest generation of SMG. That's why the manual was released almost a year after the SMG version, and mostly because of demand from US consumers.

A recent C/D report also shows the M5 with the 6 spd actually posted worse performance numbers overall.

How come Edmunds.com claims that the manual M5 is much faster than the SMG in their latest comparo vs. the S4? That puzzled me, since all major auto journals did claim that the manual was much slower than the SMG.

Yes, I never quite bought the design of the 6 series... too bad, because they had so much to work with, and the powertrain and drivetrain are to die for.

damn the designo interior looks nice! can i lick it?!

I have an Alpine White E60 M5 and Obsidian Black S550 as well, and I can tell you the S550 is as powerful as you need for daily driving. The torque in the S550 is fantastic compared the the M5/M6.

The jerkiness of the SMG is unbearable in traffic conditions! But once you get the beast on the highway, bye bye S550.

once again, DAMN that is a nice interior!

Smart! So what colour is the designo wood trim again? Black or dark brown?
