Is the dealer lying?

I wanted to go in and order one with the Dynamic Front Seat option, he is telling me that the option is not available to order.

I'm guessing he is telling the truth since he is letting me order a car to my exact specifications except that one feature, so there is no reason for him to scam me on that.

What do you guys think?

Thanks!

Are you in the US? If so, basically Mercedes seems to be putting limits on the number of cars with each option that they will produce for each month (or the period they call a "decade", which are approx. 10 days each), at least for the US market.

So for example, when my dealer tried to add Distronic Plus to my order, netstar wouldn't accept the addition, even though other cars were made last month with distronic. Likewise if you tried to add the dynamic seats to another car last month, it would say no, even though my car was built last month with that option.

So to get most of what I wanted on my car, my dealer had to trade with another dealer for a scheduled car which already had almost everything I wanted, minus the distronic plus.

But that was the only way he was able to get the multicontour seats and ABC and the other things I wanted.

So it may be that your dealer tried to add the dynamic multicontour seats and it wouldn't take it, but that might just be because that dealer doesn't have the allocation to do it. He might have to trade with someone who does have a production slot already with dymanic seats.

I hope this helps. And best of luck with the ordering process. It is a major ordeal if you have specific options in mind. You can do a search on this board for some interesting stories. However, it should be worth the hassle. I'll tell you in a week or two.

I should add that the following options seems to be particularly difficult to add right now:

Distronic Plus
Dynamic Multicontour seats
ABC

And there are reports of difficulty getting the rear view monitor and night view assist, also.

Thanks for the information. I think I'll be ordering it without Dynamic seats, I've got everything I want.

On a different topic, I had posted a note earlier, I was wondering if you will be paying MSRP or are you negotiating a few K off of it?

Thanks!

Here it is, just about a year after the introduction of the new S-Class, and we're still talking about not being able to get the car you want. "This" option isn't available and then "that" option becomes unavailable. Initially I thought that demand in general was the culprit, but by now production could have been increased sufficiently to satisfy "all" the buyers. Is it "just in time" inventory management not performing properly ? Is it a marketing ploy to force buyers to "upgrade" to the inherently more expensive fully equipped "600" models ?

Good, well it looks like you're past step #1, then. So what other options did you get? And when is you car scheduled to be produced?

On the pricing, I'm not aggressive or patient enough to ever really drive a good deal on my own in my personal life. I like to think of it as I'm a very good tipper.

So I got a mediocre, at best, "deal" at $3,500 off. To give you an idea what I could have gotten, as soon as I asked for that my salesperson said "sure, no problem" and wrote it write down. No checking with the "manager" and I swear I saw him suppress a small smile. I don't feel too bad about it, though, because they did end up having to trade a higher margin car for mine, and maybe they wouldn't have done that if they weren't making so much on it.

But others have done much better. It definitely depends on what options your car has, and geography. For example, 4matic cars seem to be getting a slimmer discount up north. And ABC cars might be harder to deal on given their apparent scarcity in the US.

Hope this helps.

Definitely helps. Here's what I'm getting:

4Matic
P2A
Ipod
Dynamic Rear View
Park Assist
Dist Plus
Wood/Leather + Heated wheel
AMG Pkg
Pana Sunroof
Rear side blinds
Trunk Closer

My situation is a little tricky. I "pre-traded" my car in to secure a better value (I don't want to drive it anymore anyways), the car is supposed to get here in June.

I don't even know if I should negotiate now or wait till the car gets here. We've already agreed that if I pull out in June, they would just cut me a check for the trade in value which is a great deal for me...

I'm in Seattle BTW.

Congrats on getting the distronic plus on your order! I'm jealous, I really wanted that.

So you have a PO number and a build date and all that? I ask because my first and second "orders" for this S550 weren't worth the paper they were printed on because I didn't have a PO from Mercedes. Wasted a lot of time in my case.

Seems to me in your situation, you're better off waiting to negotiate a deal after the car is here.

Looking at the NetStar printout in front of me, there is a PO number on it, so I'm guessing this should be pretty solid. They told me a build date but I forgot what it was. I'm calling them every other week to make sure it's on track to get here by June.

I guess I'll wait till the car gets here to negotiate.

Great. June delivery is very good. I'm in my 5th month and still haven't gotten the car. But it's close.

Dist + is awesome! This is the enhanced version of the previous Distronic system offered. The old systems does an automatic cruise control only down to approximately 10mph. So you turn this on, it measures how far the car is in front of you, your car will slow down automatically down to 10mph until it's too close and beep and shut off, so now you must hit the brakes and re-accelerate if the car in front of you moves.

With the Plus, your car will actually stop if the car in front is too close (think rush hour traffic) and restart it once the car in front moves again and keep a set distance between the two cars.

Let me know if this is confusing

It makes cruise control actually useful for once.

The other nice thing about Distronic + is that you shouldn't have any "holes" on your bumpers for the Parktronic. They have found a way to integrate the sensors into the one for the Distronic +.

Correct on the no buttons on the bumpers. But they don't use the same sensors as with the old Distronic. The new uses the radar installed for the Distronic + with an additional short range radar.

I cannot see that they are trying to force us to the 600, due to the fact that they are not offered in a 4matic, plus i would wait for the dynamic seats because they are awesome........
