windshield wipers

Does anyone beside me think that the wipers are not so fast? It seems that the fastest mode just doesnt cut it when it comes to heavy downpours.

I own a Toyota Sienna and the wipers move fast.

Maybe its just my car

Cannot comment on that really as we do not have similar "test conditions" but did you use the maximum manual setting or the automatic setting for wipers? Could it actually be faster in the auto mode, if it rains heavily?

I can't believe you just posted this as I experienced my first heavy downpour the other day and the rain was so heavy I almost had to pull off the interstate. I did notice that the speed of the wipers are not very fast. However, in the rain I was driving in, no speed would have been fast enough.

But no, it's not just you, I thought they weren't fast enough either.

I think it defaults onto the highest setting if you are on auto, and the rain is heavy. But I definately think the speed is slow.

Another thing I noticed is that if you turn on the wiper fluid, the wipers go on first before the water sprays the windshield. Usually it should do the opposite, this way there is some "lubricant" before the wipers scape the glass. Infact the manual tells you to ensure that the wipers arent turned on if the glass surface is dry.

I've had the car for over a year, and otherwise no problems besides these tiny ones. Its been great

This is something I should have asked but have forgotten. On my car too the water sprays with a delay, one would want to have water sprayed before the wipers turn but now it is the opposite. I've been thinking if there was a "back flow valve" that leaks. I should try it the delay is similar for the first time use (after a longer period of time since the previous use) compared to (almost) immediately using it again.

Anybody who feels his/her car behaves differently (normally)? In any case I'm going to ask about this at the first service.
