Spare Tire (donut) question.

Spare Tire (donut) question.
Hey gang, here's the deal. I own a Chrysler Crossfire, which is essentially a Mercedes with a Chrysler badge. The car does not come with a spare tire and none is offered. I would like to purchase a Mercedes donut and keep it in my trunk. I know that the S class sedans share the same bolt pattern and offsets as my Crossfire, so I'm pretty sure that an S-class donut would work for me.
The trouble is that the Mercedes dealership parts guys will barely give you the time of day if you don't have a VIN number!
Here are my questions:
Thank you very much!![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Here are my questions:
- Does the S-class even come with a donut (as opposed to a full size spare)?
- If so, it would be a big help - a HUGE help- if you could tell me the year/model of your S-CLass and the tire size of the donut (ex 155/70/16).
- Any other relevent information is greatly appreciated!
Thank you very much!

I know the w220 S-Class (previous model) did come with a full sized spare but was just a basic black wheel (not matched to the ones that came on the car).
If you need a VIN for the parts guys, just find a S-Class off eBay as they list the VINs there and just give one of those, makes no difference really.
I'm not sure if the new w221 S-Classes even come with a spare, I *think* MB included a can of fix-a-flat now except re-branded.

W220 with a matching wheel?? Nice. They might have changed it for later w220 models or was it a special request? I know the full-sized spare on my parent's '01 S500 is just a black wheel, fat 5-spoke design (not a steel wheel).
To Crossfire_Owner - If the w221 comes with a donut, then just find a VIN off ebay of a 2007 S-Class and give that to the parts guy.

The W221 spare tire size is 155/70/19 ET35, if one exists. Comes with option code 690.
The disc wheel part number is: A2214000202. The temporary tire part number is: A0154014610.

I really don't like how the W221 comes with a donut now when even my Audi A4 comes with full size spare with matching wheel too.

In my life I've gained once from a full sized spare tyre, that tyre was from another car to one that went for sale. 99% of cases your own spare tyre would not match the ones you have because they have worn too differently, or the spare is too old to couple "three new ones".

As you say the Crossfire may have the same spare tire as a MB and other MB parts may be used in it but as Benson said to Quail..."I know MB and the Crossfire is no MB." Just got a chuckle out of your post...try an SLK and see the difference...:-)

The W221 comes with the donut. I don't know the specific specs but it also comes with a special set of lug nuts which must be used to mount the spare. I would suspect the rim size may be different?

I was told by my dealer that the spare tire inflated or something though...?

No...it is inflated in it's space in the trunk. I had to use it on my trip in May '06 when the left rear blew out on I-40 near Knoxville, TN. TelAide sent a tow truck to make the switch and it was ready to roll. But remember you must use the special bolts that are in a little plastic package on top of the spare.
