W221 Rearview mirror with Alzheimer's
Powered with memory settings rearview mirror is standard on previous gen S class. W221 don't have it now. Did MB cut cost and left us manually adjusting it each time we change drivers. Very inconvenient, considering this is a $100k car.

Actually, they dropped it in the 2004 (I believe) W220. I was disappointed in that, the loss of a valet lock for the trunk and the pen compartment in the glovebox when I moved from an S55 to 2006 S65. Decontenting started quite a while ago.

I think its stupid american's (not all) who didnt understand why the rearview mirrors were moving on their own, forced DCX to decotent. Maybe it was their lack of intelligence that forced DCX to cut many many wonderful options. Just look at the W211 for example. We lost the Solar Panels, Drive Dynamic Seats, REST, and cause of stupid people Charcoal filters are always used now (though not a bad thing).

I think you're talking about the side view mirrors and the parking mode. We're talking about the inside rear view mirror that was motor controlled and worked with the seat memory on the S-class until 2004. It was a very nice feature, didn't confuse anyone and was removed solely to reduce expense.

Well this was done for cost and to make the cars simpler for Americans to use. People complained so badly to JDP and CR that Mercedes were so hard to operate that all the little things that you guys are knowledgeable about were removed for the clueless who love to fill out surveys in anger (ignorance). This was part of the 600 plus feature remove of all MB cars starting in 2003-04 as someone mentioned earlier.

Don't know about 600 things, but I know five or six.
The power, memory (inside) rear view mirror was removed to help keep the price point under control. Two things were decontented in late 220s because owners couldn't figure out how to use them (were too stupid, I guess). One was the passenger side-view mirror dipping in reverse and the other was key-dependent memory. I believe the first came back on the 221, but not the second.
The simple proof that these were not dropped for cost is that the hardware is still there -- I had them both reactivated by version coding on my 2006. So many people brought the cars in because they didn't understand the key-dependent memory, for instance, that it was costing them service calls and impacting initial-quality surveys. Key-dependent memory is fun (if my wife drives my car. she's button 1 and doesn't feel like a second-class citizen
)but if you don't read the manual and grab the wrong key at random from the drawer you think your memory seats just disappeared. And let's be honest -- with three memory settings it's hard to claim that losing three per key as opposed to three per car is a hardship. In fact, key-dependent memory is a classic Stupid Mercedes Trick. But I love them all.
