Once your free trial period to Sirius expires, you will have to pay extra for the real time feature. It is an additional $3.99/month on top of your regular Sirius radio subscription.

He said you must have satellite service and that it gets it's info using sensors along the highway. FM signals apparently has nothing to do with it.

This sounds very encouraging for us '-07 owners.

Now if they could just add satellite weather radar, we'd all be done. I wish I had that on my Honda Goldwing nav system!!
Truth of the matter here.... the RIGHT thing to do would be do flash the 2007's for free as part of a "good gesture campaign" - send letters out in the same fashion they would if it were a recall.

My reason is as follows:

I dont know how many of you had the W220 body...but i think its safe to say we ALL know what happened with that car - plastic bits everywhere, breaking down left and right, absolutely appaling build feel (was more like a toyota than a benz)... it was completely out of the ball park expensive to fix if out of warranty.

Now..... after all that - the 2007 S class drivers took a BIG risk spending OVER $100K on a car in its first year of production. We KNEW the risk involved... and just like the E Class drivers of 2003's new release.... the possibilities of serious problems could have been endless!

For this reason - the flash - which doesnt actually cost them anything except the time it takes to flash the system... should be a no charge upgrade for the loyalty 2007 S buyers showed Mercedes after a decade of complete and utter rubbish cars.

(My car alone had the ABC suspension fail TWICE, Catalytic Converter dead at 25K miles, Fuel Pump, Starter, Water Pump, 2 belts, Sunroof, Horn....4 times, exterior temperature 4 times, the A/C vents never did what they were supposed to do, and the list goes on) But the car itself drove VERY well - i luved the way it felt on the road - and it was a beauty. Nevertheless - i took the risk to upgrade, Mercedes should step up to the plate to thank ALL that followed suit.

Agreed?

Well said. I think you are exactly right. I mean what the heck, they aren't even giving away free oil changes anymore during the warranty period. The least they could is push a few buttons on a computer and give us the update!!!

Does not make a difference really but was your car from the first year production actually, remember the production and sales started September 2005.

Yeah, they produced W221's in early '05, sent it to US shores before '06, and introduced it as '07 model. btw, You'll know the first production car in US, if it has the shark fin antenna, or sirius bump on the trunk.

I've extremely surprised that this wasn't on the 2007 S-Class. I mean BMW has this on their 3-Series, Acura has it as an option on the TL-Series. It's definitely a software fix rather than hardware, from how I understand the way the technology works.

I hope you're right. As long as it's not too expensive, I would pay for the re-flash. The cost of the service seems reasonable.

I got my car in July 2006... It had just arrived in the states a few days earlier. I assume build date was still 2006.

On the W211 forum someone informed about a coming SW update for the W211 navi that also brings the bird's eye view. No info about estimated availability though.

That is wonderful news. Where does the disc go that you are talking about? Does it get inserted in the dash where the CDs go ?

I presume yes - there are instructions to that effect in the manual - I don't know what was involved in the dealer having to do the version recode - maybe a connection to their computer ?

Hey Guys

I got mine done today. Looks great.
QUESTION! I see i have a VIDEO option now. That means I just put a DVD in the 6 disc changer and click that one. It should play automatically when the car is parked, but just turn off when the car is in motion, leaving only the audio?

The birdseye view is great. I like it better.

Also - I have the traffic updates now, but im waiting for a disc or something from the dealer.
Is this a feature I have to subscribe to like TELE-AID ?

Brad -

Just pop in a DVD into any of the slots - as long as you're parked it'll play - start to drive and the audio continues.

For the traffic you need a Sirius subscription with traffic (according to the Sirius website). I just extended my free subscription. A word of advice - with traffic and birdseye it can be distracting - you will get used to it.

Hey Eddie!
Thanks for the info. Ill give it a try tonight with the DVD

I have Sirius - but I dont know if I have it also with traffic feature. Thats a charge in itself besides the sirius subscription?

When you say distracting, is that because the screen is going to be filled with a lot of traffic hotspots and viewing it with Birdseye will make it tough to focus the eye on ?

I made a post last night about this but it vanished for some reason. I went to my dealer today and they said the flash was not available yet for the 2007 models. Is yours a 2007 model? I see that your signature says you drive a 2007. Just want to make sure.
If you got your flash update done, then their is a miss in the communication within the Benz world as they keep saying to me it's not available yet.
I'll PM you for more details.
Thanks,
Dave

Brad -

On the Sirius website it does state a separate additional charge - however I just extended my free MB subscription so I don't think (really don't know if it's hidden iin the cost) there's another charge.

By distracting I find myself looking at it and initially (until I got used to it) looked for a longer time than without the birds-eye or traffic.
