Invoice on S550's!! LOOK!!

I am purchasing 2 S550's in the next 30 days.

My dealer in Salt Lake told me that I can have $500 over invoice and that I can order any options that I would like.

My questions is....

How do I figure out what invoice is?

How do I know if the dealer is telling the truth when they start giving me numbers?

If I have a fully loaded S550 MSRP around 92K, what is the ballpark Invoice number on it?? Does anyone have an idea??

Multiply the MSRP (before Shipping of $775) by 7%. Then add back the $775. This will give you very close to invoice on any MB car.

First you said you were buying 2 S500's, but you're putting out S550 numbers?

I could be wrong but I think NJ means multiply MSRP by 93% for dealer invoice.
Be sure he means year 08 before signing on the dotted line! He may have a ****load of 07s with various options scattered throughout the country to draw from.
They look an awful lot alike!

So getting 7% off of sticker is a fantastic deal? Or just a mediocre deal..2008 with about 90 percent options.

What is the absolute lowest that a dealer can sell the car to the consumer without going into their own pockets?

Thanks.

Their is a large (no HUGE) markup. I bought a 2006 CL500 for $75K that had an MSRP of $105,000. Brand new with no miles.

Also, remember that many 2006 CL65s and S65s were sold at $70,000 discounts. Unless Mercedes-Benz AG was giving up this money back to the dealerships, these dealers were really sticking the buyers at MSRP. And to think when these cars first came out, I saw some on dealer floors marked up even higher at $220,000!!!! . You know darn well they didn't take a loss even at those low numbers, so you have to conclude that those sales were digestible to the dealers with some profit or they wouldn't have sold them. This also explains why my $145K 2007 S600 dropped to a low of $110K at wholesale within minutes after the sell. Their is a reason they won't give you much for a car once it's been sold.

invoice vs selling price...my experience

The numbers I posted for a 2008 S550 are what is commonly known as invoice. Dealers also get a certain amount from manufacturers for total cars sold at their dealership - usually at end of the fiscal year. This is particular prevalent with US manufacturers, but it might apply to some foreign makers also. These amounts are rather secret and change from year to year, known only at dealership by principals and not the salesmen. If the manufacturer is interested in 'moving' a certain low selling model already at dealer's lots (e.g. perhaps at end of model year before the new model arrives), they will give 'trunk money' to the dealer to sell these cars. The dealer decides how much to share with consumer on a case by case basis - depending how desperate he is at getting rid of these cars and how knowledgeable you are as a consumer. Dealers don't get the money until the car is reported to the manufacturer (or importer) as 'sold'. This is called having a car 'punched'. The warranty then starts at that date. Some dealers 'punch' a car before it is sold to get to the money right away - which takes weeks or months away from consumer's warranty on that particular car. Finally, some cars need more than invoice pricing PLUS trunk money to move out. That was the case of the last remaining 2006 S65s and the dealers indeed had to dig into their pockets and actually take a loss to sell them. I negotiate on basis of invoice (or invoice plus trunk money), usually trying to allow a few thousands for dealer upfront which I believe is fair all around. Unless you want a particular popular model just as it comes out - and then you pay MSRP. Good luck on your negotiations. Z356

Did we end up with 7% off of MSRP or 9% off of MSRP?

Thanks.

I have just ordered my 5500 and got 8% off list. It is still expensive compared to what you pay, £86,000 or $172,000.

Yep what Blue is talking about is dealer holdback. As for the OP why would you want to buy 2 of the same depreciating asset? The S550's are softer than goose sh.t.

You did not say if the cars were 2007s or 08s. Sure they can sell an '07 at $500 over invoice. They now have $4,000 trunk money. Now a good deal on an '07 is a couple of thousand under invoice.

What would you do? Almost all autos are just toys with instant gratification....but if we are able to get 10-12 percent off of MSRP wouldn't that justify the cost of purchasing every year or two?

Maybe a used S600 or S65?

We all know cars depreciate I just wouldnt buy two of the same car that will tank in less than 1 year. 10 to 12 percent of MSRP is not close to what the car will lose as it clears the dealership property and then once miles are on the car it gets even worse. Again, its all relative to ones value of the dollar. Some can waste their money and it doesnt matter, even though I can buy these cars I chose not to.

Any used V12 will be a great bargain. Of course just when one thinks they got a great deal (like myself) the car drops in value even more. Thats ok though because I knew that going in, I just wanted a 65.
