DTB P-B-82.85/512e DEC07 updates the Telematics system under warranty to accommodate the new navigation DVD. If you need a copy to present to your SA, PM your email address and the dealer continues to refuse the update notify MBUSA CAC (customer assistance center) 800-367-6372 and explain that you were denied warranty service.

I have nothing to add but a suggestion then to buy the new map DVD and show the dealer "it does not load", then they are forced to look at it and solve it with the telematics system update.

I was a bit confused if it was only with the W211 map where a Comand update was necessary to load the new map DVD but from konigstiger's post I understand the same applies for the new W221 map. The European documentation does not mention the telematics update mandatory before the new map update, must be the same here too (I've probably missed the note).

Another point unclear to me here is if this update can be done from a service CD or is it only by SDS?

The command update is done via SDS *and* a telematics flash CD. You put the CD in the slot 1 and fire up SDS and tell it to update. The map can be updated in certain builds without the telematics update but you do not get all the new features until you get the telematics update.

I took my vehicle to American Service Center twice to have this update completed and it is still not correct. First I setup an appointment and verified they had the updated navigation Disc in stock. Took my car in, they said they updated the Telemetrics but I would need the updated DVD which they didn't have. Yesterday I took my car in to have them load the dvd and there is absolutely no change. Any assistance you all can offer would be extremely helpful. It seems that the telemetrics update was not done correctly, I printed out the material from this site and gave it to my service advisor. Is there any MB bulletin that details what this update is supposed to do and how to do it so I can give that to my service advisor? Also, if anyone in the DC metro area has done this to there 07 S550 please let me know what service center you went to and who the rep was? I have an 07 S550 Launch Edition.

I went on a 275 mile trip this weekend and my version 5 nav system calculated the time of arrival to a tee. I did not have a problem at all with the calculation. Just my experience.

After much lip biting and patience I have finally got my telematics and navigation update working after the third visit to the dealer. I essentially had to leave my car with them for 3 days and let them play with all thes settings and software to get it working. I am pretty satisfied with everything except for the traffic updates, need to read the CL manual to get that portion working but other than that I am finally satisfied. Strange though that at this late date I was the first customer to inquire and request this update from my dealer.

Great anyway that you got it done. According to the workshop guide, they should print you the user manual supplement that covers the new features. You can download it also from the Euro on-line manual site, but the Euro one might be a bit different.

Remember that aside from people like use who frequent the forums most people have no idea that there is an update that can be done. Furthermore mercedes has no real reason to actively promote the idea unless they decided to sell the upgrade so they keep quiet.

I could understand this if the update was only for new features but since it also is fixing a number of issues (some owners may not have noticed any of those), it should be MB's interest to have the updates done.

Took my car into service today, and casually mentioned to my advisor about "birds eye view". He got all excited and said he could do it for me. Even consulted with another guy on what to put in the computer so it'd be covered under warranty.

DIDN'T COST ME A DIME! Now I have birds-eye and DVD movie capabilities!

I'm sending the guy a case of beer!

Funny, I just took my car to the same dealership (American Service Center) this Saturday morning to have the Telematics on my 2007 S550 Updated and they told me they had no idea what I was talking about. Do you recall who your advisor was and what they finally did to get yours right?

I have been asking local dealers for months about this update and even called the national customer service. everyone i talk to to is totally clueless, i live in Delaware but work in Jersey, If you could provide me the bullitin as well so I can finally get the update for my COMAND system i would appreciate it.

The dealers confuse the Telematic Update with the Comand Software Update they are two different updates ...... Most people are seeking for the Comand Software Update it changes the functionality of your Comand Center and allows Video in park.

I did upgrade at dealer and when I put DVDs it say unknown format can any Help did the dealership even do an update?

Do you have the Birds eye view option for viewing your maps? If not, then you are not upgraded. If so, then try putting your car in the accessory position without turning on the car & try it again.
