anyone had this problem...
I have a 2007 S550, last night I turned off the car and it was making this popping noise a sort of crackle/fizzle noise. I looked under the car it was dripping a little liquid, but Im sure that was the A/C. Then today I go to lunch, it makes the same noise again after I turn it off. I think it may be a catalytic converter. Im going to schedule an appointment tomorrow. Just wondering if anyone else had this issue. The car only has 7,300 miles.

I just took some pictures of my car - and it was in a silent area - no noise - so it was clear what I was hearing. I heard the same crackling / fizzle noise. I heard that it was nothing more than the A/C condensation dripping on a hot area.
I have 18K miles now - and I have heard it before - and nothing is wrong with the car.

Is that what the dealer told you? I guess that is reasonable cause. I was just worried, I'd never heard it before and was concerned it may be something greater. I'm still taking it tomorrow better to be safe than sorry.

Oh yep. Sorry i didnt say that. The dealer told me that the crackling noise was the water dripping - they asked if I had the A/C on - and anyone that knows me, will tell you that I have my A/C on 24/7 in the house, and whenever im in the car. EVEN IN THE WINTER! I know. I am Mr. Freeze from Batman

That crackling sound is entirely normal. All my cars do that when the car is shut off after being hot for some while.
Its the emissions systems cooling down. Its nothing to worry about.

but im not talking a 2 hr road trip, Im talking it made that noise after a 5-7 minute trip to a nearby restaraunt. Also it made that noise just the last 2 days, not once in the previous 14 months of ownership. It just got me concerned

I have an SL55 as well and it doesn't make that same sound, it hasn't since I've owned it. I will post what the dealer says tomorrow or Tuesday. Im going to call in the morning and see if they can get it in tomorrow.

Thought I'd resurrect this thread to see if anyone has had a similar issue (or if the issue turned out to be a problem.)
I have a 2006 C230 that makes this sizzling noise after only about a 5 minute trip. It sounds like something dripping on a hot piece of metal. Yes, I do run the A/C, even in the winter. I thought it might have been water dripping on hot brakes, but the brakes were only mildly warm to the touch.
