2008 S550 - Black vs. Andorite Grey

I am ordering today - 2008 S550 - 4Matic - P3 - Pano....Kind of torn between the Blk/Savannah & AG/Blk.... Live in the Northeast... Any advice from current owners of those colors? Advice on options - HAVE to have? Have to stay away from? thanks.

I would rather get black then AG. Have you considered Capri Blue or Majestic Black (the color which I think replaced Black Opal)?

2008 S550

I have a 08 in Black/Savanna - Love it! Have the new R23 Seven split-spoke wheels and think they are a big improvement over the standard wheels. They are a no cost option.

Wouldn't get the P3 because I see no use for night vision. Would highly recommend the Distronic-Plus Package, which includes Parking Assistance and Blind Spot Assistance. This is something I find incredibly useful. Blind spot assist makes the size of the sideview mirrors a non-issue. It was a last minute addition. What a mistake I would have made not getting it.

AMG Sport package for that aggressive look....

ABC for INCREDIBLE handling - keeps the car FLAT in the curves, and flat when you take off and brake hard, where the car has a tendency to pitch and squat.

Drive Dynamic Seats - its amazing when you hit a curve, and the seat bolsters up to keep you pinned.

You will love the Pano Roof - its gorgeous!

If you have room to up the price - a wood steering will is great!

Wheels

They are not the standard, but are a no cost incentive option for the 2008 model year. Very few cars seem to have them. They are not in any book, but were communicated in a memo to dealers from MBUSA announcing the changes for the 2008 model year. I only saw them in the photo that was in the memo. It didn't give me a very good idea of what they would actually looked like, but I ordered them anyway. I thought something for nothing has got to be better. When my car came in, I was thrilled. I think they are a big improvement over the standard wheels. But that's just my personal taste. I am probably one of the few people who think the AMG package destroys the lines of the car. If you look at the styling of the basic S550, the big fenders and the cut on the bottom of the door that continues through the rear and front bumpers are reminiscent of the classic styling of older cars with big fenders and running boards. The AMG kit appears to be an odd looking appendage stuck below this. The high cut added in the rear bumper seems to be in the wrong place when viewing the vehicle from the side, and the extremely low front bumper is too low for my taste, and sure to come in contact with a parking barrier sooner or later. I much prefer the S600 styling if you are looking to add the exposed pipes in the back. Sorry AMG guys ! Rest assured that my opinion does not seem to be that of the majority.

2008 S-550 AMG, 2008 GL450, 2005 Ford F-350, 1998 Bentley Turbo R, 1962 Bentley s-3 Saloon,
I just traded in a white/ cashmere s-550 for a black/black s-550 amg so I have apples -apples comparison and the white definately stays cleaner but the black is more luxurious on the 550 anyway (if you keep it clean)

I would go for the black. My other three MBs are 'grey' but I am so glad I got the black....it looks so well on a S.

Get the "Night vision"....it is so cool You won't appreciate until you use it. I posted 2 night vision photos on this forum. Bluetooth phone set up. Also i-Pod connection. For sure, Keyless-Go, too.

Congrats.

PS: Distronic and Parktronic as well
