Socket for lug bolts on S550 wheels
I re-tested the fitment of the 17mm and 11/16 sockets on the brand new lugs and both fit fine (there is minor play with the 11/16). It appears that if the lugs aren't damaged or worn out, the regular sockets will work, but are more likely to distort and strip the lugs over time. I'll try the NSB.17 when it arrives.
Some owners keep this 24" breaker bar with convex socket in their trunk for emergencies........

BTW, I was surprised that it's actually more loose on my bolt than a 17mm socket. There's more wiggle room. But I like how it grabs on the center rather than the edges lessening the opportunity for technician error.
If this is made for the Maybach tool set, why isn't there a Mercedes-Benz part number?
Ultgar, is the free shipping code one per account? I was thinking about ordering another one for backup.
If you look at the bolt closely, the head has the stainless wrapper on bolt and it is soft. The problem is that the wrapper out of shape after uses. You will find new ones soon to be out of shape again.
There is an easy way to re-shape the head which I did. Here is how:
Find a few short wood blocks and a rubber hammer, or wood block instead of. Insert bolt all the way in to socket.
Then put the bolt and wrench all together, one end on a wood block to keep some angle. Using a rubber hammer or a woodblock, hammering heavily sidewise between bolt and wrench. Rotating the bolt and keeping hammering. After a few rounds, the head of bolt will be in perfect shape again.
Hope this can save you a few $$.

Also, They appear to be a two part "bolt with a cap on top"...anyone remove the cap and see what is underneath? Maybe its that simple?
