Socket for lug bolts on S550 wheels

This is not the right tool. It will not protect bolt heads better than a regular hexagon socket. The right tool, you can see here:

Castro....have you measured the degrees of lateral play between the points on your sockets to the points on the lug bolts ? Just curious as to the tolerances used by your manufacturer.

Hi everyone. I oredered both the assenmacher socket and facom socket just in case. A tech i know at my local dealer said the assenmacher one is a tight fit and works well on new bolts but as the shell swells from corrosion the facom one works better.
Going to go to the dealer tomorrow with one of the bolts. he thinks the new ml's might have a solid hex bolt that may fit. ill keep everyone posted on the findings

Hey everyone. I got the part and it seems like a direct replacement. The parts guy said just to keep an eye on them and check to make sure they retain their torque because they were not originally made for this vehicle. These solid ones are black powder coated and have a solid 17mm hex head. The head is shorter than the capped ones but the seat, shank and thread pitch are exactly the same. They dont look bad at all either. In fact you cam barely even tell they're there. Id rather have these than be stranded with a rounded off bolt. Now i can use whatever hex socket i choose. Ill keep everyone posted on if i have any issues

Special socket
Dear all,
So there is a specific impact socket available for these type of wheel bolts / lug nuts , 17 mm sockets fit them but damage the stainless steel pressing that fits on the actual bolt, it sort of squeezes the flats and eventually changes the form preventing the Mercedes socket fitting, funnily enough, today I removed both front wheels to do the pads and get some new tyres at the same time , I have the correct socket , it was about 10£ , but I had to use a 17 mm mostly as the Mercedes socket was too tight, later I got an old cold chisel and gently punched in the squashed stainless steel flower pattern, that was misshapen, and all is okay. The real Mercedes socket really fits snugly, but a 17 flank drive is also a good fit, I would not use a 12 point socket though, as it would round the soft stainless steel covers ...

I knew there had to be a special socket for these... had a customer with these style lug bolts and knew the normal 17mm wasn’t the right fit. I’ll see how the 11/16ths mentioned fits and get the right socket if it’s not good enough

17mm snap on 12 sided doesn't fit.... the right tool fits perfectly.... the are mercs design of security fitting
a worn 6 sided tyre fitters impact socket works coz its a bit decrepit…. they are 17.1mm across and its actually a thin stainless cover over a 16.9mm conventional hex nut

Thank you guys for following up on this topic, my S550 was totaled 3 years ago from rear ended by a DUI driver on S I-15, he had expired CDL, driving on other people's car and had his GF switch seat to take the fault, but got caught by experienced CHP officer. My car did everything it was designed for to saved my life, the CHP officers and tow truck driver said based on their daily experiences on I-15, I'm in the best possible car they can tell.
