Interesting how many of you guys are into this topic.
I'm with WSH all the way on this one. When I drive, I always check my blind spot and that's a good ol' habit. Track experience will also do that to you...
My S 600 doesn't have blind spot assist and even if I did have it I'd still be checking my blind spot.
As for parking, if you can't parallel park by the time you own an S Class, then you may as well pack it in.
Perhaps there are certain drivers out there who need to have the car drive them since they are so bad at driving. Lexus parallel parking features appeals to drivers of certain origins, however, in my city by the time that car would park itself, someone would jump into the spot while the car is still figuring out its calculations.
If you own an S Class, one would have to assume you're a pretty good driver to appreciate what the car offers...
As for distronic, I pass on that too since the way I drive, I am usually "driving" to get where I'm going so I usually don't want to "park" behind some Camry or other vehicle...

I didn't feel much different then you prior to getting these systems. Having had them, and the opportunity to use them, my opinion has changed completely. Distronic-plus is a godsend in stop-n-go traffic, so if you live in a metropolitan area and commute, you'll learn to appreciate it very quickly. Otherwise, it may take a little while. I never used the cruise control in my other cars, but I use the Distronic-plus in traffic almost every day. I would say the blind spot assist system sees more than you do with a shoulder check. You'd be surprised how quickly you stop doing it the old way. Parking assistance just makes life easy - its nice to be able to see a satellite view of your car and the parking space as you are parking. Makes it easy to center your car and get it perfectly straight with the curb.Originally Posted by carsnob

I have been looking at the MB EPC and the only parts that appear to be relevant to (code 234 - blind spot assist) are the different mirror glasses.
There does not appear to be any wiring harnesses or any other associated parts listed for code 234.
Does this then mean if you have the later Distronic Plus combined with Advanced Parking Guidance 233/230 that it would just require the mirror glasses to be fitted and have the vehicle recoded for code 234!?!?!?!?
Any ideas??

The leds on the mirrors need power, they need wires and a control unit and the old door control unit does not seem to be capable of driving those leds. There is a 234 specific door control unit: A221 870 99 92.
The outside rear view mirror frame is different for 234: A221 810 07 76. I'm not sure if this is because of the mirror wiring harness being part of it.
Not impossible at all to change these parts but the cost from the control unit, frame and mirror glass would be a bit high relative to the gain from the leds. I would consider the feature useful without the leds but if it would only work with a new door control unit, I could consider changing that and perhaps even the other parts.

Sorry , I was looking at parts listing on the EPC for the CL500 W216371.
Maybe this still has to be updated???? as there still doesnt appear to be different control units, wiring and mirror frames etc.

It does look like the new parts are dropping in slowly one by one.Originally Posted by jbo

I wanted to add blind spot assist to my 500 series, because I saw it on my friends car which is the newer model of my car.I called the dealer and they said it cant be done.No one could add this feature to my model year but I was convinced someone knew how to to do it. I went to George and G&n motors and he called the dealer and ordered the part. He then retrofitted the blind spot assist on my 500 series and can do so for the 2009 and newer. So he not only can he fix them, he also can add the part from the manufacturer in some cases.

BTW, Steve retrofitted this on my car successfully a while ago.

Care to explain on what was involved and total cost? I just did the new mirror upgrade and this would be a good option. ThanksOriginally Posted by jeffreyy

I'm guessing that given it clearly states can install blind spot assist installation from 2009 to latest then per the OP's question, this can not be retrofitted to his (or my) early 2007 MY08 CL63?
A gentleman from Honolulu had BSA retrofitted on his 07 221.

Hi
I just spoke to a guy here in Toronto, who says that he could install the blind spot assist for about $800 Canadian in my S350. However, he does not install the warning light in the side mirrors. He either installs the warning light in the Rear View mirror, sets a light up somewhere in your dash. There is also an auditable sound that you can turn on or off...

hmmmm. I'm sure you could get the glass from Mercedes and have the light on the mirror's. remember, that shows you left and right....
