I guess you realize that the airbag module on the AMG steering wheel you are ordering will have that cheap looking leather? Unless your dealer can change out the airbag module as well as your steering wheel when they come in? Are you in Canada?

This is the AMG steering wheel I'm talking about. The leather may look a bit cheap but the grip and feeling are very good.

And Yes, I am in Canada.

TestnDoc, how do you compare your Cayenne Turbo S and ML63? I have to replace my Cayenne Turbo soon. Any comments?

I couldn't help but notice the center display (where the speedo is located) shows something different on it than mine. It looks like it has a compass indication on it and a few other things. Is this what you see all the time or do you activate that screen ?

If I had to pick one or the other, I would pick the ML63. The ML has a better "off the Line" feel, in other words the power delivery is much more linear, as opposed to a turbo charged engine. Also the exhaust note of the ML is alot better...more of a rumble when you mash the throttle. The turbo has a better handling feel, with the steering being a bit more responsive. Also the turbo is a little nicer on the inside, with leather on virtually every surface, and an alcantar roof liner. You cant go wrong either way though.

Maybe my using the word "cheap" is not fair, but compared to the leather on the airbag module on a designo car, it is like night and day.

Agree,

And I also agree that the power of the Cayenne Turbo is not so linear. That's also part of the reason I choose the s63 over the s600. I perfer non-tubro engine. And the Details of the Cayenne is nicer than the ML. I will choose the Cayenne GTS vs ML63. But that will be after my s63 delivery.

That is a resetable stopwatch that comes on AMG models.

No, cheap is fair. The steering wheel cover without the leather and stitching is cheap looking.

Missing Designo steering wheel

Not that this was a big deal, but my S550 was to have had the wood/leather wheel as part of Designo. Instead, I received an all leather wheel (which is actually what I wanted) that is heated all around the rim. this was a running sub by MB. What I don't like is that fact that the airbag cover is a "cheap" looking plastic. No leather, no stiching...."not a single luxury".....

I would personally replace the airbag module in the center with the leather one, the plastic one in the S-Class looks strange because of it's usual shape. The stitching though hides some of that.

I was always attracted by the contour of the AMG steering wheel and never realize the cheap looking airbag cover. I certainly can see the big different between the wood steering and the standard leather steering wheel. Does anyone have a good pic of the AMG leather steering wheel.

The two pic below are AMG car, one with wood and the other with AMG leather. The thicker leather steering wheel looks very good on this angle. But I don't have any cockpit view.

According to the photo from AMG website. Both s63 and s65 does not have stitches on the airbag cover. Your photo is a s65 (see the V12 badge under the clock). Anyway, I don't believe these "official photo" anymore. So, anyone who has an AMG steering wheel. Please show us the photo.
